Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii U blitzes PS3 and 360 as the "greenest" console

So people saying Wii U lacks power were somewhat right?

really?

who cares.

this is a good thing, nintendo will save the planet one console at a time

Decent article but they didn't use the latest version of the 360 the "Corona" model which was released in August of 2011 and has a power supply rated at 115w and should use a little less energy then the model they used the Trinity (Valhalla) model which has a power supply rated at 135w. Also I don't think the successors of the 360 and PS3 will use a lot of energy since both should launch with hardware running with 32nm chipsets and should run on 22nm hardware by 2014.

when you can barely do what 7 year old hardware can do, you better be eco-friendly :P

When is this going to stop?

nevar!!!

But it doesn't make sense. Wii U isn't weaker than current gen systems, and you can't prove it is. Have people forgotten about the Zelda HD demo and the Bird demo at E3 2011?

Also, look at this Pikmin 3 video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAiielCzc3o

The lighting and water-effects (when the crab walks out the water) are never before seen on current gen systems. Maybe there are some games coming close to this effects, but the PS360 are already years on the market. Wii U is a new system, the architecture has yet to be understood. Remember how more beautifull Twilight Princess was on the Gamecube than the demo they showed earlier. So a much more beautiful Zelda is already possible on Wii U than the E3 2011 demo.

And also: WHO CARES ABOUT POWER.

lol.  just lol.

but really.  it will stop when wiiU gets a game that is noticeably better than something the ps30 can do.

who me?  what did I do?

I should have reported him for that... but I took the high moral ground instead.

Well I did quote POE, as he did start it. But I just didn't want it to escalate.

Also, the comment in question was reported, but that was after I did respond. So I'll leave it for now.

@POE

Consider it an informal warning. No personal attacks are allowed on this forum. Thanks

Anywho...

@OP

Cool!

Oh really?  How so.  Do share you enlightened state with me.

what he's saying is you did all of your research when considering which console to buy: supported games, online support, power consumption, price, ect.  with all the availble information you proritized the list before coming to an educated purchase decision.  it really shows you have a pretty high level of education compared to the masses that simply say, "hey, i want to play that game".

This is the reason I buy Nintendo Products! Small steps people and our environment will be saved.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, and that's good to hear about the Wii U using less power--that's always a good thing--but isn't Nintendo considered the worst of the Big Three in terms of negative environmental impact?

Because they won't release their info to Greenpeace.  They give them a low rating due to them not giving a shit about Greenpeace.

"It scores points on energy criteria, for the energy efficiency of its low power AC adaptor for the Nintendo DSi, which meets the requirements for external power supplies in the Energy Star program," writes Greenpeace in the guide. "It also retains a point on energy for disclosing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from its own operations.

"However, it fails to score for its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, due to a second year of increases, despite a commitment to cut CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gases by 2 percent over each previous year."

I don't know about the the Pikmin video, but most experts were unimpressed by the E3 demos and believed those effects could have been replicated on current gen systems.  It was the artwork, especially with the Zelda demo, that blew people away.  You might say it was a tiny bit dishonest, though we're talking about business, so I wouldn't hold it against them.  Any of the others would have done the same thing.

That aside, though, I agree that raw power is mostly overrated and that the Wii U is fine.
