Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What would make Xbox LIVE's $60 fee an unquestionable value?

They should have a MS point system alongside a normal currency system.

The MS point system, however should be given to us as a monthly allowance in which we can choose what to do with. Subscribe for a month of premium service, or buy dlc with the ability to rollover MS points to so that more expensive DLC may be purchased. This will promote digital distribution and keep it very active.

The reasons the fans show to justify the Live's price are lame. Some say it is for friends, for avatars, cross game chat etc etc. The thing is PSN is the same thing without any cost. I think Microsoft will lose many potential buyers next gen because of this.

I remember how X360 will have almost no boyers because PSn would be free...  One of the reasons why PS3 would destroy the X360 in 2006....

It already is.

The fact that someone decides to give away something almost similar for free is irrelevant.

Don't value it? Then don't pay for it. Simple.

Done. And here in lies the issue. Competition is never irrelevant.

I didn't say the competition was irrelevant. Read again.

That similar free thing is competition. Think again.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Don't get on that topic. Back then PS3 had lots of problems. The PSN was not as it is now. I am talking about next gen when some people will be aware of things and get out of the web of Live.

It's not an unquestionable value since it has been debated countless times.

To make it into one would be to offer gaming related stuff for free - I would prefer at least first party DLCs for free for gold members. Things like that would have been great. Avatars, themes and other stuff.

As it stands it is barebones.

We are talking about VALUE not cost and not the alternatives.

If I give you a ferrari for free that doesn't diminsh its value, just its cost to you.

the competition is irrelevant in the debate.  It is about what will make LIVE have value for some users.

The main value for me is in the fact that my friends are on their. If I move to PSN I lose that most vaulable aspect.

The competition is not irrelevant. The reason someone would question the value on XBL can be influenced by competition, free or not. If someone was giving out ferraris for free, why would anyone buy a ferrari?

Increasing value for a service to attract cunsumers is important, even more so if the competition is improving its value. I understand that those with already established friend bases, etc. will lose quite a lot of value if they were to discontinue service, but maintaining subscriptions and attracting new ones are two different things.

XBL won't fall off the face of the planet if it doesn't provide more than what it does right now, but that could stunt its growth and worst case shrink it. The quality and value of other services will have an affect on potential customers and XBL will not want to become stagnate.

One more time.  value =/= cost

if I adopt PSN and ditch live then its free, I save money, it cost me less.

However, none of my firneds are there so it has no value to me.  I go back to LIVE and pay becasue I, PERSONALLY, get more value.

I agree, friends are the biggest value.

I'm not sure how that answers the question in the OP. We can all agree that the PSN is awesome. What can Microsoft do to make Xbox Live worth $5 a month to you?

As for me, I'm already satisfied.
