Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Current vs Last, a Console Sales Story (COMPLETE!)

Final Smash: Should somone one do this at the start of every gen?

yes 65 75.58%

no 3 3.49%

show me the money! 7 8.14%

Total:75

Very interesting. Both XOne and PS4 sold over a million for the last week of November whilst the mighty Wii only managed 700k.

Poor Wii U, this really puts it into perspective.

Not exactly the full outcome I thought I'd see, but very interesting overall.

What was you expecting?

Thanks for the update btw.

FINAL UPDATE!!!

Well this thread took for fucking ever to complete. But it is now done and cemented as a backdrop to future discussions.

Interesting notes:

1) WiiU did 25% of what Wii did.
2) XB1 beat X360 by raw sales and losses incurred.
3) PS4 doubled the sales of the PS3.

and more importantly to this man... Wii is still TOP DOG!

When I started this thread Wii U had just launched and was doing quite well. I thought it would do less than Wii overall but still very high. It didn't take long for me too realize the consumers did not share my opinions on the gamepad.

By the time PS4XB1 were launching my opinion changed and this outcome matches that opinion.

Thank you Chunky! You've really made a great thread!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Great, you finished it! Awesome compilation of data .

Anyway, it's a little painful to watch if you see things like this:

June
Wii: 1,028,000
WiiU: 85,000

Or:
Aug4
Wii: 284,000
WiiU: 22,000

Got to be the biggest drop in market share ever .

Agreed peelman. The Wii to WiiU drop is a massive fail for Nintendo.

Though as a product and accompanies games, I love the WiiU and the gamepad. I'm going to hate to see it go away next gen.

wow, and I thought the drop from the PS2 to the PS3 was bad, but this is something else.

Thanks for the graphs update @OP, the graph shows console gaming is alive and well overall from what i can see

Port good games to HD would help the gap but still need developers to complete it. Nintendo need more developer studios to provide them games. Partnerships would certainly help increase hardware sales.

Now who's going to do this next gen?
