That has always been the big question about Wii U.

None of them can afford to ignore it after the PS4 and 720 launch. The sales of ZombiU, Assassin's Creed III, possibly Arkham City, Black Ops 2, Rayman Legends and Aliens Colonial Marines will show that there's a market for games aimed at the 'hardcore' demographic. Add to that the fact that the U is going to have a similar architecture to the PS4 and 720 so it'll be easy to port between all 3 consoles and the fact that it's going to have an installed userbase anywhere between 10 and 15m and you'll see third parties in the West that don't want to haemorrage money supporting the Wii U.
You've also got to take into account that development for the Wii U is going to be a great deal cheaper - they're all going to have to pay for licences for the likes of Havok middleware, Autodesk middleware and the Unity 4 Engine when developing for the PS4 and 720. That's tens of thousands of pounds spent on each PS4 and 720 dev kit which comes free out of the box for U SKUs.
And does the Wii U really need saving..? They're in really short supply over here in the UK thanks to Nintendo in their infinite wisdom only giving us 40,000 units for launch. I suspect that supplies here and in the States will be constrained in favour of Japan. It's not every day that a console launches over there with a game from the second biggest franchise in the country and a Beta for the first biggest franchise in the country.
