I guess only exclusives count as the measure of a platform to some people. Personally what I find annoying is how people count the impact of exclusives looking backwards and not forwards, I.E. games like Bioshock/Mass Effect etc aren't exclusive now but when they came out they were important/had an impact even if you can't call them exclusives anymore.

Bioshock could never be called an exclusive. Mass Effect was a timed exclusive though, so I guess you have a point there.

Didn't Bioshock release much earlier on the 360 than on PS3?

Edit: I checked and it was released on 360 a full year before the PS3 version.

Im sorry but I cant imagine anyone being taken seriously using meta games in 60s or lower to showcase their consoles strengths.

Also its common sense that when a new gen begins, the spotlight is shifted to the new hardware and interest in older hardware fades away. That happens with all products, not just gaming.

Bolded: Isn't that still just you setting rules based on what you think? Same thing you just accused other of doing? That's the same as what the OP is describing, which is people claiming XBLA games don't count because they don't fulfill some made up criteria.

italics: That doesn't mean the sales of the previous gens consoles are not relevant. PS2 sold 50M since the arrival of the XBox360. It's been relevant for years up until recently.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

since when did shadow complex not count? that was raved about. along with braid and limbo and castle crashers before they went multiplat to ps3. there is also trails HD which is still raved about and i believe still exclusive.

i just assumed that was all the good exclusives. if xbla had more i would have heard about them from xbox fans. it's not like ps3 owners hype every psn exclusive .. just the really good ones. if there are good xbla exclusives not being hyped don't blame me for your lack of ability to get excited about them..

What do you mean by "count"?

The rules haven't changed, its just that Journey is so good, it gets nominated for GOTYs by everyone, even a Grammy for chrisss sake!

Yeah im also not sensing the supposed oppression.
Are you talking about back in darth's day?

I love the xbla games. They're fantastic. Shadow complex is a metroid that is better than the last metroid, and i play trials at least once a week.

As far as comparison lists go, i think some people just dont bother with xbla psn games because it starts to get complicated as per criteria.

No, you can't. Those are XBLA games, which is not the same as true 360 games. Also Gears (1) is multiplatform, as is Fable. They don't count. You can only count Halo and Forza.

True story!

Halo 1+2 and possibly wars were all on the PC I should point out and lets not forget that Forza one was on the original Xbox a different console entirely so none of those series is truely 360 exclusive!!!

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Man. I guess I made it all up. There was never a time when we did library comparisons and Game A didn't count because it was for Kinect or Kiddy (Gunstringer/Viva Pinata). There was never a time when Game B didn't count because it was "just an XbLA game" and can't be compared to a full retail game. There was never a discussion about how "people don't buy consoles for downloadable games. The hardcore retail exclusives are all that count". Also, the Wii doesn't count, either.

Nobody on this site never referred me to www.factsvsfanboys.com either. It was all just a dream! I know people have spoken highly of titles like Flower and Braid for years. I even own a ton of PSN/XBLA titles that have been critically acclaimed. I just want to know if we can count titles like Journey in these console penis measuring contests dictated by certain console fans who like to rate things based on skewed criteria. Because, if we can count digital download titles in these discussions, well then that changes everything.

Actually, that is true! Xbox was a different platform and halo was available on pc too. Can't count those. I guess there is nothing left.

I'm not sure I understand. I've heard Trials and Shadow Complex talked about on the 360 side of the ledger since I re-entered the world of console gaming. After that, it was Castle Crashers, and Limbo got a massive amount of hype. I even heard people saying Limbo should be nominated for GotY. I don't think that anyone would deny that XBLA games are a large amount of the 360's draw, perhaps more than the mainstream games to some people.

In that context, I don't see why anyone would mind that PSN games are getting buzz now. The key point is that these games get hyped, not because they're on XBLA or PSN, but because they are QUALITY GAMES that a lot of people have enjoyed. As a big fan of smaller, downloadable games, I'm glad to see them get recognition, no matter where they are released.
