Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft won Gen-8 against Sony, already?

Now that we know PS4 will be using DX11.

So, Microsoft not only get licensing fee off of PS4, they are also better at it, since they own the tech and all.

Xbox3 will dominate the graphics area for Gen-8, it seems.

PS3 and Wii don't use OpenGL, they use custom graphics APIs. They will just provide a similar set of features in PS4. Correct me if I'm wrong, but believe that even 360 (that has DirectX) has a custom API for better performance that's the one used by most games.

I doubt Sony will use DX11. Working with OpenGL was never what developers complained about PS3. 256MB of Ram and an exotic cpu was.

Besides, Why would they do that ? More and More games are supporting linux now.

Linux games will rise exponentially over the next few years.

oh no, not linux again. really, i use linux at work and at home, definitely my preferred os, but please, don't make predictions to linux - this has been done way to often and sadly was always wrong.

Valve is making steam works with Linux.

if i understood correctly, steam is only a delivery platform - it does not magically make windows games work under linux. it also does not solve driver issues people have with their nvidia- and amd-gpus. correct me, if i'm wrong.

Steam supporting linux will surely make developers want to release linux-OpenGl versions of their games.  Nvidia already announced they are making new drivers for linux. One of them was released already:

No. Not yet. Lets talk after the head start

1/5 - no effort or creativity.

Sure, why not...

If the thread was about the new rumor saying Microsoft is going to buy Epic, they'd control the Unreal engine... forever would have been better thread. Given it was a joke though you sure suckered people in.
