Forums - Sales Discussion - Windows 8 hasn’t been a hit with PC gamers, according to NPD

Either Nsanity cut the original article, or the author "stealth" edited it.

It seems, despite Valve’s protestations, Steams users are adopting Windows 8 four times faster than the general population.

Their own updated steam hardware stats page shows in total 4.69 percent of users have already adopted Windows 8, versus between 1.44 percent and 1.09 percent according to Statcounter and NetApplications.

The percentage is more than half of the 8.07 Vista user base and exceeds the 3.26 percent Apple users.

The news is probably not that surprising, given that most gamers want to be on the cutting edge of PC technology, and that Windows 8 generally results in a faster PC, but it does suggest that Valve may want to rethink their objections to Windows 8 before a significant percentage of their users start running the OS.

That's simply an emotional response right there. While Gabe has expressed his concern over Windows 8, Valve and Steam are doing absolutely nothing to alienate nor discriminate against Windows 8 players.

Funny though that Gamespot totally messed up on reading the Windows 8 adoption numbers.

Was it Gamespot or VG247 that messed up?

I think the "original" Digital Trends article messed up, not a single reference to the 4.4x% the 64bit version of Windows 8.

Windows 8 just looks like MS is designing it completely around tablets and smartphones, which is nice if that's what you plan on using, but to us old timers who prefer a desktop or laptop, it just looks like a big mess. I made sure the new gaming pc I got came with Windows 7. If it aint broke, don't fix it MS.
