Not sure how it is with you. But in the UK you have no issue. Any fraudulent transaction is covered.

Generally how it works in America, too. You dispute certain charges, and then the credit card company investigates to make sure you're not trying to skip out on a bill. I've never heard of issues with that system, and usually the company catches it before the monthly bill comes up, though sometimes it doesn't. I have a separate credit and debit cards, both hacked at different times, the first with someone cashing $600 in money orders in Maryland, and the second with a company mysteriously charging me $40 and leaving a telephone number, who claimed that they didn't know what the purchase was for (and looking the phone number up online showed that other people reported the same thing coming from here). The second one my company didn't catch, but the first one was caught.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Have you recently used an ATM you don't normally use or swiped your card in a card reader? If so you most likely got skimmed at an ATM or a card reader. ATM skimming is quite common now, so if you used a standalone ATM there's a good risk for that. Also what's been happening recently is that people have been bugging store card readers to obtain CC numbers. This happened at a Barnes and Noble near me (this alsohappened nationwide), and a local restaurant. The criminals in both tampered with the card readers and were able to steal numbers.

I'm pretty sure that you are not on the line for Credit Card purchases.

However my GF had her Debit Card stolen, which isn't as "safe" as a Credit Card. Someone was buying gas at a gas station everyday for a week. Clearly passing the card around amongst freinds.

Anyway yeah just do everything in your power. My mom had someone buying Jewelery in Europe once with her CC info

Depends on the bank you have a debit with. Because it seems I can't go to the bathroom with out my bank calling and making sure it me. (This is hyperbole) I made a payment a few times, just to have my bank call five minutes latter just to make sure I made that purchase. It can be a little annoying, but I guess they don't have a AAA rating for nothing.

Fillet, im a gamer.
I buy games online from different places.
I have accounts with playstation, and make purchases with bestbuy and gamestop, buy pizza at dominos and have accounts with blizzard.
My spending is probably a good reflection of many users here.

Are you suitably told?

It's official then.  PSN has been hacked and hackers have been using the CC numbers!

The bank actually caught it.

Basically someone got my debit card info and created a duplicate card. Went to OfficeMax and bought a cheapish laptop. Then went next door and bought a PS3. Then went back in to buy another PS3, but then it was flagged and the bank contacted me asking what purchases I had made today. I told them "just gas at ....". Then they asked if I had visited an OfficeMax or ToysRUs recently? I said no. Then they told me what happened and the $1000 was credited back to my account, my current debit card was destroyed and a new one was being sent to me.

I never learned if they caught the theif or not.

But technically, I'd bet someone could do somethign similar to get free crap. But it may not work in the long run as most places have cameras and they provide all that evidence to the bank. Plus it would only work once before your account was flagged and they potentially didn't believe you anymore. I would never as I hate theifs and think they should have their hands cut off... or at least fingers at first.
