Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Wii U Games Fail To Crack UK Top 10

Well, considering that there only about 40-50k consoles available, that kind of leaves the chances of selling more than 40-50k of any one title on the platform pretty slim.
To be expected, there should be a couple of titles on the top ten next week.

On a side note; why the hell did Nintendo provide such low stock with a lunch this close to christmas? Makes no sense, they're bound to miss out on a lot of sales this way.

Around the Network

Just one thing to note. Nintendoland is not "the pack in title". The cheapest Wii U set doesn't include anything, and there is also a Zombi U + Pro Controller set which also does not include Nintendoland. So I don't think anybody other than people wanting Nintendoland actually bought it.

As others have also said, there are stock constraints and a few people didn't get their systems in time to buy further software this weekend and there were 2 days of sales vs other formats usual December surge with a full week.

I'm not saying it's a great start, I'm not saying it's a bad start, I just think it's a bit too early to be drawing conclusions either way.

Another thing I've noticed is some retailers (GAME *ahem* are charging £54.99 for some Wii U Software like Zombi U. There's no way you're getting me shelling that out for a game when I've just spent so much on hardware anyway! And as much as you can go elsewhere, remember GAME still hold about 35% marketshare i the UK.

As for us being Nintendo dominated in the UK... LOL! One of the only EU regions where the Xbox outsold the Gamecube and the only market where Xbox 360 is the market leader.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

...It's only been a weekend. Give it some time. Besides, only 40,000 people got their hands on the system. (SO FAR)

Considering Fifa and Skylanders probably failed to even crack 1k, expecting them to perform moderately well in just the next month seems like wishful thinking.  Unless moderately well is less than 10k units.  Also not every game will perform like Carbon did according to VGC.  Plenty of other Wii launch games had higher (or similar) debuts and far lower total sales.  Trauma Center, Excite Truck, Avatar, Rampage, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, basically all the games that started off worse, and a a good chunk of the games that started off far better didn't have those legs.  And that was on the Wii, the Wii U has yet to prove if it'll have the same kind of hardware sales that fueled those legs.

If you notice, I picked out only a few select titles for my list, there. The rest, I expect to continue to struggle, at least for the remainder of the year. They may see more activity early next year, but that remains to be seen.

But FIFA and Just Dance are franchises that typically do well on all platforms in the UK. Skylanders is "the" kids game of the system, and thus is likely to become the game that parents buy for their kid with the system (other than Mario or Nintendo Land).

Mind you, "moderately well" doesn't mean "massive numbers". We're talking somewhere around 50,000 for FIFA and Skylanders. For Just Dance, I expect 100,000, easily. 10,000 will be typical numbers for the other titles, like Tank Tank Tank.

Well the year is now over, so let's see how Wii U software fared in the UK.

Fifa 13: 4,744
Skylanders Giants: 3,227
Just Dance 4: 11,870

It looks like even 10k was far too optimistic for Fifa and Skylanders.  The best selling piece of software was Nintendo Land with 68,277, and only 6 titles managed to crack 10k.  Unfortunantely Tank! Tank! Tank! was not tracked.

I'm still not sure how you thought those numbers were realistic considering the launch week.  Why would Just Dance 4 magically sell 15x more than launch week for each of the last 4 weeks of the year.  At least now it is definitely fair to say everything that was under ACIII flopped as well as some things above it.
