Forums - Sony Discussion - 2013 – PS Vita’s Last Hope

i don't think it's 2013 or bust, the lesson of MH is one must have game can really turn things around. the lessons of the wii is that generations are now able to turn on a dime.

but with that said, vita is in a bad positions. i am quite certain that only sony can turn this around as i can't see any third party taking the required risks. putting ps+ on vita seemed to help at least among my friends of previous psp owners. ps4 interaction could be interesting. but really, it needs big games. it's doing good, imo, on the small games front. but it needs a system seller. right now i can only see two potential system sellers. soul sacrifice for japan. tearaway for the west. ..but if vita's last hopes ... things probably won't end well.

here's hoping sony has something to announce for next year. if not, well, i don't want to think about that right now.

If COD and AC3 couldn't pull it from the depths I don't think any game alone can, but if they implement a price cut

soon it should start to pick up but they have to do it as soon as possible before all interest in the handheld dwindles

and would lead to the death of the young Vita

I agree in what you said, but I don't think 2014 will be a good year for the Vita if the sales in 2013 aren't good. I mean let's say that devs are probably working on games that will launch in 2014, there's a whole year to see the Vita sales and what happens if those sales are bad? They are probably going to cancel the project or move it to another platform, unless there are big incentives from Sony.

I don't think that's going to happen.  I mean it could, or a few developers might stop if they're in the early stages, but I doubt it would happen on a wide scale.  I've said this before, but I think it would be a huge mistake if every developer in Japan tried to fight their way into the 3DS market.  A lot of studios would be choked out by the competition.  As ironic as it sounds, developing for the Vita would be a kind of "blue ocean" stategy.  It's in the best interests of Japanese publishers to create an alternative market to the 3DS.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that the Vita has to show marked improvement in 2013, especially with price adjustments.  I just think 2014 will be the real make or break year in terms of software.

I agree, if developers stick only to the 3DS there will be a huge problem in the market. But the main competitor of the Vita in Japan is not the 3DS, is the PSP (as funny as that sounds). Even if the Vita is easy and cheap to develop for, the PSP is still cheaper and have a huge install base in Japan, and there are still games that sell really well. Sony have to somehow cut the support of the PSP (without killing it) and move it to the Vita, that of course will require huge incentives coming from Sony.

OP, guilty Gear isnt exactly an exclusive, its the newest version of Guilty Gear XX Accent core plus. It has na R in the name now. I dont know if they retouched the sprites a bit but its essentially the same game.

I entertain the idea of getting a Vita, but it just doesnt seem like its gonna happen. I still think they should've made it more backwards compatible to incentivate PSP consumers to upgrade. Also, with the Tales games and Y's staying in Japan, there is no chance ill pick one up. I think there really isnt any hope left for the Vita at this point. We shall see.

Didn't wanna say this before because your list was so nice (if a little wrong), but if you're making changes, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is a worldwide release for early next year on Vita (and a port, obviously). Muramasa (port from Wii) is a Japan-only release in March too.

There's other stuff like Photokano Kiss, Steins;Gate and other more obscure stuff for Japan too if you were interested in making your list complete!

Vita will pull through just like the psp and the ps3 did. Sony just needs to give her a bit more support. They just need to advertise a bit more, cut the price by about 60$, lower the price of16gb and 32gb memory cards , and dish out some more games for her.

I got a hunch that Sony is cooking an onslaught  of Vita awesomeness for E3 2013.

Good points. The Vita needs a pricecut AND games.

A $199 price with a memory card would be more ideal and it wouldn't impact Sony's financials too much. Worst yet, Sony is missing an opportunity with pricing and bundles. The ACIII and Blops bundles are fine so as long as they remain $199. Imo, Sony should actually launch a PS+ Vita bundle (Wifi Vita, 8gb memory card, 1 year PS+) for $199 and advertise it (and PS+ in general) through the holidays. That way people can see they are buying a console and getting all these games at once. (and they would have to buy another memory card to download them all, hence Sony won't lose out too much)

Finally, Monster Hunter Freedom 3, Monster Hunter 4, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy Type 0 Vita.

The Vita shall live then.

It is gonna be touch especially because we dont know what else is gonna be announced (some of the games in the OP list I've never heard of like Dead or Alive 5 Plus , really when did this get announced?).

TGS was piss poor this year for the Vita, so Japan's gonna have to get random announcements throughout different times or unless Sony does the PSVita Heaven..(which hasnt happened since the last one >.>).

West wise we still have some events prior to E3 that can potentially gather interest for the system but at this point due to competition from the 3DS, smart phones (even though its hilarious to compare it to the Vita despite the fact the people still do) and tablet gaming it is gonna be tough and the only way to beat the competition is instead of focusing on multiplatform titles they will have to focus on exclusive titles, memory card price cut, heavy bundling, etc.

I'm planning to get a Vita myself in 2013, hoping to get one sometime in the Fall (my 3DS in Summer 2013 hopefully).

In japan they haave famitsu Sony can announced in any week new games for vita.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
