An Xperia for christmas was certainly first on my list until the Lumia 920 was announced. These new phones seem to be more enticing to consumers than the Ericssons ever were. They have some ridiculously good entry level phones that only HTC and Samsung could compete in price. At least over here anyway.

it is indeed a very good level spec's for a Phone, as a matter of fact:

TO PUT THIS IN PERSPECTIVE:

In fact Sony already has Xperia's using the exact same chipset  as the 920

Darn, was salivating over the Xperia T then noticed the ommission of 4G. Looks really bloody good though.

so sony's mobile department is expected to make a profit this quarter? since last quarter there sales were 8.8 million and they need 10 million a quarter to make profit right? could the holidays help make the division profitable this quarter?

make sure its the TL ver which is 4g if you WANTED A newer XPERIA WITH 4G. its there

no by end of 2nd Quarter 2013 if their 10.2 million can be shipped for the 4th Quarter 2012 than by the end of 1st Quarter 2013 they will have had profit. they will not know yet because they are using about 60%production of units from china so they will not know until after 4th Quarter.

currently their really about 1 Sales Quarter from Profit as it stands right after the 3rd Quarter results.

so this quarter wont be profitable even if they sell over 10 million units?

you really cannot go wrong with both units, the performance is going to be d@rn near the same over all. Its pretty much down to a feel for which Phone is more comfortable mainly and OS level choice pretty much and Windows Phone is a really good OS, just like Android and Apple's iOS. they all are pretty good for what you need it to do. I like Android out of the 3 mainly because of its open stance but that's just me. i would not turn the other two away based on that anyway, i just have a preference for Android thats all. xperia Odin or Rogue is what im looking to replace my LG Thrill.

no it just means we will not know the outcome until after the 4th Quarter results. remember their is cutting of 2000 workers and moving their HQ to japan, that is an expense for the Sony Mobile department. It does not mean outright they will not make a profit, it pretty much means they right now expect profit within this 4th Quarter or the end of Quarter 1 2013. barring complications profit will be seen end of 2nd Quarter at the latest as long as they can get the units from Foxconn.

Sony Mobile beat their projection and is expected to increase to 10.2 million /sales Quarter if infact Sony does this in 4th Quarter 2012 they will have made profit. but they are having to count on foxconn shipping the ammount for their demand. right now Foxconn is providing quite a number of ODM's smartphone production's right now, if it slips in quarter shipments Sony may not be able to until the next Quarter sales shipments get put out.
