Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 gets another metacritic win (2012)

Sony did make some games that scored a few percentage points higher on the Metacritic scale, but MS and Nintendo make games that score WAY higher on the 'sales/number of people that actually want to play' scale which is much more important in a real world sense.

I hope I wont get banned for saying this.

But Playstation(3) did really have nothing measly to offer this year. I was gravely disappointed that they had such a wonderful year last year.

None of their AAA exclusives broke 80% for pete's sake. I understand that they will have another big year next year with Beyond, GoW and TLoU. But this year? We got nothing but a crappy redesign.

why would you get banned for saying the truth? im a huge sony fan and love sony exclusives, and this year has been shitty as hell. i only bought starhawk, its a good game, not that great underrated but its not a 90+ game, not even for me. most of my PS3 games are sony exclusives but this year is really dissapointing. next year on the other hand is just plain awesome

Edit : i havent played journy yet so i cant comment on it, i heard its awesome but still one game isnt enough to change my mind about the year

Im a fan too and I totally agree with both of ya. Aside from Journey, we didnt get shit. Sure All Stars, Starhawk & Twisted are fun, but they aren't "incredible/masterpieces" imo. But considering what next year offers, as well as next gen closing in + the fact that Sony has been pumping way more quality titles in the past, I can somewhat understand it.

See this topic for the critics GOTY list and see that Sony has been doing insanely well for the last 4 years, racking up to 6 games in the Top 5 according to critics, yearly (which by the way is double as much as Nintendo and MS COMBINED) => http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=149333

Bad year for Sony but Journey won the battle for best game (metacritic wise). This is probably the first year in awhile I can say the 360 won with quality titles but overall this year was just meh for exclusives.

It's just that simple.

And Kinect Sports sells amazingly, so does each Call of Duty.

Yet, their sales dont make me one ounce more interested. Now if people would be talking about those games and reviewers would praise them, I'd care much more. Call me crazy! (Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda seem way cooler and thats just off of Meta too). Ofcourse I understand that the sales are important, but take a look at those games and we're talking like >3-5 million at the least. That's well enough to call profit and put aside that "Important sense" and focus on what is actually the better game :P

i didnt say its not understandable, it really is. considering there preparing games for the PS4 and next year will be filled with awesome games its pretty outstanding what they are doing, also i would rather wait until studio's actually finish the game instead of rushing it, im pretty sure they could have released GoW A this year if they wanted, but they chose to let them take there time. taking a look at the amount of awesome exclusives they have released in the past 4 years and the ones they will release next year i really cant complain much, yes its been a bad year, but over all Sony pumps out high quality exclusives like no other

I think there needs to be a new 'metacritic' type alternative site set up where only approved websites and mags get to feature their scores. As it stands Meta is a good indication of the quality of a game but it's not quite god enough. One game maybe based on 10 reviews and other on 90. Just too inconsistent.

But congrats to the PS3. It's handful of the very best exclusives do rule from a production value point of view at least (though not a fan of LBP myself as charming as it may be).

I think it's worth pointing out thought MS exclusives have way more replay value and hence better value for money. Just taking this year into account, Journey was probably my favourite game. But I've played it once. Halo 4 and Trials though....

Gratz!

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

That's really cool, Sony makes really good exclusive games but I would never play Journey, I find it way to pretentious and I hate when developers do shit like that and people gobble it up like it's the video game Mona Lisa. I think the artistic nature should flow naturally instead of being forced.

Well you haven't played the game, so how can you say that? I wasn't too sure about this game and its high scores (since I prefer hack and slash games, not movies or "experiences") and surprisingly Journey has become one of my favourite video games ever.

The real story here is how PSN/XBL games have surpassed retail in quality this year.(according to metacritic)
