Various articles say they're sold out... while the only people who say there are easy to find are forum posters. Usually who are searching via online rather then actually checking in store.

My money is on the articles, and forum posters either being mistaken due to slow updating, or just wanting to be mistaken.

Some people here have said that earlier today there was some stock online, but as of this writing (Cyber Monday evening), only Gamestop and Toys R Us are taking orders for the basic SKU (the latter via their notorious bundles).

However, the deluxe is not available anywhere online at the moment (aside from sellers on Amazon or eBay, obviously) and neither SKU is available online at Best Buy, Target, Walmart or Newegg. Most sites simply say "available in stores", so while there are always new shipments arriving in stores, clearly there aren't enough to replenish the online sites with units (particularly the deluxe) and this will almost certainly continue throughout the holiday.

It's sold out. You'll notice a pattern with the people that say it isnt. If it were so readily available, TRU, Gamestop, and other retailers wouldn't be cancelling preorders.

I paid for mine today, picking it up on friday no shortage i was told!

That makes sense, but there's also the question about why Gamestop had 500k Wii U consoles pre-ordered. Specially since the Wii U sold 400k during it's first week.

In my country, the Wii U are sold out online but are available in some store, so maybe it is just a matter of the area we live.

Seems like Nintendo shipped basically just about the right amount to meet demand this time.

eBay scalpers are getting hosed.

With Wii, that was insane, they could've sold more than double what they actually shipped.

Damn! I'm going to the states on December. I was hoping to pre-order one and pick it on December. Not sure if it's going to be possible.
