Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox Live is dying?

What are you talking about.

My point is so far unrelated to what you're saying, I'm wondering whether I should continue wasting my time.

This thread asked why people are saying it's failing (dying) correct?  No it is not and if you know it has been growing by 10% each year then I believe you answered it for yourself.

It has only been one guy who said that and he got his thread shredded to pieces No it is not failing and it has 40 million gold subscribers. It is a billion dollar service so no it is not failing.

40 million?  That's nearly the size of the 360 installed base.  Are you sure about that?  It would mean that an overwhelming majority of 360s out there are linked to a gold account.  I have trouble believing that.  Isn't gold actually unavaliable in some regions?

Yes I'm positive.  They have 35-40 million a year.

Sorry, just looked it up, those are the numbers for LIVE accounts, NOT gold accounts.

"Ballmer said that of those 66 million Xbox 360 consoles, there are 40 million users who have signed up for an online Xbox Live account. That's a pretty good connectivity rate.

Of course, in order to do simple things like play online games and stream Netflix videos, users need to pay for a premium Xbox Live Gold membership. Ballmer did not say how many active Gold members there are."  http://www.tgdaily.com/games-and-entertainment-brief/60687-xbox-live-users-topple-40-million

In 2010 the number of LIVE accounts was around 25M, with Microsoft saying that around half of those were gold.  I doubt the percentage has strayed all that much, so it's probably 20M gold accounts, give or take a million or so.

Personally, I don't think xbox Live is dying, but I don't see it going as strong for another generation. Live's success partly stemmed from being head and shoulders above the competition, and the competition is starting to catch up.

I mean, I don't even think people anticipated PS+ or PSN being nearly as strong as it is, which will only make it harder to rationalize paying for it next gen. Had PSN or the WiiU been under par, then the decision to pay for the Live service is a no-brainer. But now that people are aware that alternatives exist, it might not be so easy later on.

This post was by no means affirming that xbox live was dying, but that MS is going to have to ratchet up the value in the future, which they are easily capable of.

It is kind of hard to say that when PSN has been well behind in multiplayer this whole generation.  Who knows what happens next gen but xbox is known for multiplayer gaming

Behind in multiplayer? How exactly? I would love for you to give some examples.
Play Call of Duty on PSN or XBL, the multiplayer is exacty the same. The servers are both P2P.

Since when is CoD all of online activity?  Are you forgetting other online games?

Yes I noticed that already when I read through it.  When you google it it says 30 million in 2011, anyways we will not know the correct numbers exactly but we did answer this thread already so I don't know why there is still argueing about it. Not you, you havent been

This isn't my thread.

I made some jokes and then made a post about how it could potentially be burning out, based on increased competition and other alternatives, remembering to say that it was all easily fixable and rectifiable so long as they put some effort into it. You just came out of nowhere and said that Live was head and shoulders above PSN without giving a single example as to how so. Then when I said, "yes it was much much better comparitively in the past, but now is seeing competition", you cite Socom as some kind of evidence that ps2 was actual competition to Live.

That is a joke.

You know Live is great, and has been great for what, 10 years or so? I know that too. But I also know that competition barely existed until 6 years ago, and that the current marketplace is very competitive indeed, to the point where MS are going to have to try a little harder.

So yes, don't quote me with your remarks when you don't even know Live's ballpark numbers.

LOL @ Bold. No way. Where did this number come from?

OT: No, Xbox Live is not dying, but it is falling behind in some areas. Sony started doing Day 1 Digital Downloads for some games, Microsoft hasn't. Nintendo does it for every single game with Wii U. And then there's Playstation Plus. The value there is amazing.

Steve Ballmer and Majornelson.

PS+ has roughly 5 million users and has had no effect on XBL.  I know a lot of people has been hyping it up on this site but the majority of people see no need in owning PS+.

Don't arrogantly say things you know nothing about.

I would love for you to give a source, until then I wont' believe you.

I HIGHLY doubt PS+ has 5million users too. Where are you getting this number from?

@bold
I can say the same to you. You're the one that seems to be making stuff up.

One of many articles that you can find by simply typing it into google.....Lazy people

There are 35-40 Live accounts. MS have not given out their gold numbers except for three years ago when they said 10-20million.

Since then, they've bragged about yearly 10% increases, so the number cannot be higher than 25m or so.

then use an estimate of 25-30m  This isn't hard to figure out.  All I can do is give you information that we have been given and by you saying that it increases by10% a year what was the point of this thread when you know the answer already?  No it is not failing is the answer and is getting bigger.

You think Microsoft would tell us if Gold subs are down? lmfao.

Dont know how I got you two confused, that is my mistake.

And no I'm not stating that it is head and shoulders above PSN, but the people hyping up PS+ as an online service on this site is becoming redundant. Not you, you haven't.  We have been having these comparisons a lot here lately on vgchartz unfortunately.

I brought Socom up because PS2 has had online experience before.  Nothing to do with competition.

If Live is dying, then it's probably because 360 has lower sales this year and is reaching the end of its life cycle. Microsoft's online service will likely be resurrected with the 720.

You think Microsoft would tell us if Gold subs are down? lmfao.

I dont get your deal.

This is in 2010.  They made 1.2 billion estimate that year.

And you was wondering about the PS+ number which I got from a previous thread from a Sony fan on this website so I figured it would be accurate.  Just looked it up and Sony will not say.
