Getting the retail release of TWD.

Quite amazing to see a short, download only game beat out Microsofts most expensive game ever.

I think what we're seeing is kind of important. We have downloadable games getting nominated over big name sequels with massive budgets for mainstream awards. We might be getting a glimpse of the future. Medium range retail releases are dying, killed by the blockbusters, but from their ashes we're seeing better and better download level titles. These games are where the innovation and imagination are coming from, where chances are being taken. It would be awesome to see them gain mainstream respect.

Honestly, I doubt Journey wins GOTY, though I hope it does. It would mean that huge development and marketing budgets aren't the only ways to gain recognition.

I was pretty much calling this the weakest gaming year in 3 years all along and I still feel completely justified in that belief after seeing this years nominations for game of the year. Still to play a lot from this year, but I honestly feel that the first four months of next year look better than this whole holiday line up except for a few gems like borderlands 2, Dishonered and possibly Ass Creed 3 which I am yet to play.

AC3 is up for 6.

Dishonored is in GOTY, 360, PS3, Action adventure, Graphics (and i suppose developer if we count that) => 6
