Still, NES didn't seem to have half the shovelware as Wii does/did...

Every market leader has shovelware.  Atari 2600 (video game crash), NES, 16 bit era, PS1, PS2, and Wii had a ton of shovelware.

I know Nintendo limited the amount of games a company could release on the Nes during a specific amount of time. That's why Konami created Ultra Games (which was the cover company they used to release Metal Gear). I think (but I'm not sure) that's why companies like Tengen released unlicensed games with those awesome black cartridges.

I know the Nintendo Seal of Quality only guaranteed that the product would work well with your Nintendo device or that it was approved by Nintendo but, did it have anything to do with the enforced software limitations by third parties? Was there such a restriction on the SNES or the later systems? I'm a little rusty on my Nintendo history, at the moment.

Once you got past super smash bros, mario games, and twighlight princess the wii had no core games.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Okay, so I will try my prescriptions here with you if you don't mind.

1) Can you give me a list of core games on the PS360 that you liked? I would like them to span as many genres as possible.

2) Do you consider Monster Hunter a core game?

That was because Nintendo limited the amount of games that third parties could release per year (four or five, I think). So if they wanted to sell games, they better made them good, because they had only limited chances and the NES was widely successful.

But Nintendo limiting third parties and thus raising the average quality of video games was one of the reasons why third parties willingly jumped ship as soon as there was an opportunity, so Nintendo didn't implement such a limit for the Wii.

I could have sworn I wrote something very similar in this thread a few posts up... Could just have thought about it and never written it down though =p

You already got warned today, so this post of yours is baffling.

Let's not get reactionary, let's try to actually untie his logic.

Yeah, you're probably right! Perhaps I just didn't notice them in the same way...

Who cares about "core" games? I wanna play fun games! Games I enjoy, games I can spend hours with... Wii did that very well! I've never laughed as mush while playing as I did this gen.

But he cares. That's what I'm trying to say guys, what are the goalposts? If he cares about core games, then he does.

If he's the only one, then that's something you can say. But if there's an audience like him, that should matter because then some people do care. And if they care and the criticism is false, then we should have a reason for that.

I just think that the definition of "core" games is silly. What matter is that a game is fun, right? At least, that's what SHOULD matter. What IS a core game?
