Well... Not exactly, no. :(
That's because the 40% android market share that I mentioned earlier was actually just an estimate - while the article I quoted mentions that Android tablets were on the rise in the third quarter, it doesn't actually mention the overall Android market share; instead the numbers they mention are market shares of various manufacturers. In case of companies like Amazon (9% market share), it's clear every tablet they sell is an Android device, but in case of the companies like Samsung (18.4% market share) or ASUS, I wasn't sure if those were exclusively Android devices.
They mention that Apple (=the iPad) has dropped to 50% market share, so I simply made a conservative estimate of 40% market share for Android and 10% for "others" - whatever that might be, since I cannot think of any other tablet platform that was really relevant in the third quarter, Windows 8/Windows RT devices weren't available back then. So the actual Android market share might be even higher.
The article mentions overall numbers though, 27.8 million tablets in the third quarter. Apples 50.4% market share equates to 14.0 million iPads sold, and my estimate of 40% Android market share would equate to 11.12 million devices.
