Forums - Nintendo Discussion - First Wi U System Update is Day 1!

It seems that you can just put the disc and play all the games you want without any online configuration, but in order to have acces to the wii u online features and apps right after connecting your Wii U system to the internet for first time it will need to download a patch (somehow a big patch a guess) that will add MiiVerse, NintendoTVii, Wii U Chat and the eShop to the system.

And the problem is....?

That doesn't bother me at all, but it's... kind of strange, I suppose.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Well it is annoying, but it makes sense as the WiiU production started a while ago. Nintendo probably wanted more time to fine tune these services before launch.

This has sense, it explains why Nintendo haven't released final information about Miiverse, because while the system was being packaged they continued working on the online interface and applications.

It is a bit strange.

As I see it there are two possible reasons for this: The software was incomplete when the Wii U production started, or this is to stop information about these services getting leaked before Nintendo wants to announce them.

Or maybe a bit of both.

I guess Nintendo just want people to choose. Tomorrow is the Miiverse Nintendo direct so if you don't like it then don't download it, simple as that.

This is pretty simple to explain. No one cares for these features if they don't have internet so it isn't a problem for Nintendo to do this. At the same time it helps them say the system has more memory.
