The blindness of people to their own fanboys makes me facepalm.
I hear it all the time, from every side. "x fanboys are the worst!" It's absolutely unbelievable to me. I've been to forums and websites where each side has held sway, where each fanbase came across as the most rabid and vicious and immature. I can only believe that people blind themselves to what they do not want to see.
As an example, I used to go to a particular gaming news site a lot. The user-base was dominated by 360 fans. Any post about Sony was met with the exact same people bashing Sony for everything. This group was the worst kind, the type that depended on images nicked from 4Chan to make their argument. The Sony fanboys who responded were always massively outnumbered in the resulting flame-wars.
And yet, amazingly, most of the rest of the user-base would ignore the viciousness of the fanboys on their own "side" and complain about how awful the other fanboys were. It was stunning. It's an eye-opening glimpse into the human psyche. It reminds me of politics, where people honestly believe the politicians in the party they support are all puppy dogs and rainbows but the politicians on the other side are all the snake guy from Harry Potter.
So, yeah, some people might not want to believe it, but the "the other fanboys are worse" excuse is tired and willfully ignorant. If your own behavior is the same as those you're complaining about then you are part of the problem. Don't cast stones at glass consoles. This is the internet; somewhere, on some forum or gaming site, the fanboys for the console YOU like are being more obnoxious and stupid than the other guys. Pretending otherwise will just make you look delusional and erode your own credibility.
