You can also "cheat" its dumb AI. The first d.knight you find in the game can be easily backstabbed. You can backstab him, run quickly away, then backstab him again and again. :P

Dark Souls for PS3?

The game is not short and it won't get easier later, so you'll still have a lot of time to learn it :) It's very usefull.

Honestly, I would disregard all those "play this, go there, take this item, use wiki" comments. Venturing into an unkown world, the thrill of discovery and the sensation of getting clubbed to death at every corner is the very essence of enjoying demons and dark souls. There is no magic if you play by the guide.

You don't have to read any information about the areas or encounters, but some general info about the game mechanics is very welcome. The world is still unknown, knowing what the stats mean and do doesn't take anything away from that.
This game doesn't explain anything, after 30 hours I finally figured out how to jump, after I saw other people do it. I never figured out how to do a backstab.

You have to die and backtrack a lot anyway to learn the level layout. That's the real star of the game for me. I can still easilly mentally traverse every corner and all the short cuts in the game.

I'm not saying use the guide to before you do stuff, just to figure out what stuff is like covenants and how they work. That and maybe the occasional help if you can't figure out something after X number of tries.

Well I didn't look up anything. Sure, I missed a ton of stuff, but I had my very own experience. I just hate this "do everything this way and in this order, it's the most efficient way". This is not how RPG's are supposed to be played.

I just think that the game is most fun when you try to figure it all out yourself, at least on the first playthrough. You don't need to know about every single thing the game offers to master it. I only talked about the games with friends after I beat them the first time and then we discussed how everyone experienced it. On my second playthrough I incorporated the stuff I learned from their experience.

Yeah and for finding the door to the depths. I found the key but couldn't find the matching door anywhere.
