If the Wii drops below 10k/week in america. Nintnedo should cancel the Wii, as the GameCube rarely dropped below 12k/week.

52/week * 10k = 520,000

If the wii drops below 50k/week I would say the Wii is a fad.

I think the Wii is a fad, becuase of it's price on consoles. Alot of people say the Wii is expensive. Actually the Wii is the cheapest console released in the last 10 years outside of the GameCube, and the DreamCast.

The GBA Micro is a fad item. Nintendo follows fads. I dont know if anyone else has noticed this, but that is how nintendo is starting to appeal to the masses by creating fassion trends. "My GBA Micro is 4x smaller than your PSP and looks cooler!"

Fads do sell like hotcakes tho. My question is, when will the Wii loose the Fad status, and how much will it effect it.

As the current 'fad' for the Wii will bolster sales way up, wich will give it the software, wich will help it in the long-term. The question is, how much will it help it?

Gah, I don't like this new quote system... too hard to format.  I wonder if the old PHP

say something here
tags still work...  Guess I'll find out after this post.

See, here we go, Mr. Ahmedinejad.  Summary of your post:

"What if DOOM AND GLOOM FOR NINTENDO?  If something significantly higher than DOOM AND GLOOM happens, Wii is a fad"

You're starting out with a biased statement, right after you say you don't want bias.  "We just want peace, so we're giving you the gift of the 15 soldiers we kidnapped.

People say [negative thing about Wii].  I say they're wrong, I say [other negative thing about Wii]

"Cheap" and "expensive" are both negative words.  'Sides, I haven't heard a single person call Wii "expensive."  So you're calling a more or less agreed upon fact into question based on a whim.  Kinda like someone announcing that the Holocaust needs a forum for open debate.
(note: not a Godwin... I'm comparing Kwaad to Ahmedinejad, who made above announcement)

[Poorly-selling Nintendo product] is a fad.  See?  I'm not saying fads are a bad thing.  Nintendo tricks their consumers by creating fad items.

Notice the inconsistency.

Fads are good!  My question is what's going to happen later?

Which would be great, if that really was your question... Every time you say "fad," you straight out tell us what's going to happen later.  "I never said that we'd nuke Israel."

What? I was commenting on lenardo's post. So touchy, but fair enough...I will comment on your post instead. How is a fad determined by price? Did you not read the definition of a fad? It's posted twice on this thread. It has nothing to do with price. It has to do with it's trend in sales. Its followed by a group enthusiastically....temporarily. I am not trying to provike any anti-Sony sentiment...but this definition describes the PS3 moreso than the Wii. PS3 was bought enthusiastically by hardcore Sony fans and eBay opportunists and then quicky died off. How is that not a fad? Also, I hate the way Sony and MS has giving people that notion that $250 is cheap. It's not cheap. $250 bucks for something that plays videogames (non-necessary item) is not cheap. It would take a person that earns minimum wage a whole week of work to pay for a Wii. Consoles have always been around $200-$300 at launch. All of a sudden that price is considered cheap because there is a console out there that is $600. I think calling the Wii cheap is stupid, it's a relative term. It's not cheap to everyone.

Hmm. Fad "A practise followed enthusiastically by a number of people for a limited period of time; as, the latest fad in fashion."

Could that be the Wii controller?

I cannot be put any better. Remember EyeToy, it was really fun at first, but since then it has been gathering dust

When I say the Wii fad will end in 1-2 years. I dont mean it's sales will vanish and go away.

...skip a few, ninety-nine, one hundred...

However the Wii3 will be released when this generation is really over. It is unlikely that a PS4, or 720 will come out in the next 6 years.

So Wii won't vanish and go away... but its third itteration is going to see release before either of the competing machines see their second itteration?

Yes, in fact, I'm *positive* you're using all that nuclear research for solely civilian purposes.

Maybe in the way you say it Wii is a fad... (So then it's a good thing)

But >>I<< (opinion) don't like the way Hus uses it. He says stuff like: 'Wii is a fad and time will show it'. Not giving any facts to strenghten his opinion, and by saying 'fad' he means it like: Wii is selling now and beating PS3 (now)... But after 07 it will die... (Hus doesn't give any facts or other arguments then 'time will tell' to strenghten this but he is convinced of himself)

So he uses it in a bad term...

Maybe wii is a fad, but in the way Kwaad uses it, SO ITS A GOOD THING:

Sales sky rocketing to 20 mil > Ahead of competition > More support (and less dev costs for games) > More games > Fad dies, games still coming, more people buying it, more games > Vicious cirkel!!!

Hus: I'f wii is a fad (In the way YOU mean fad...) (Btw: Again. U'r not giving any facts to prove it)

Than The PS3: Is a multi-super-hightech console which has yet to start selling properly because of its absurd price (>>I'F<< the Wii fad dies...)

I think i made my point... Plz react in a proper way (Hus: That means with facts and STRONG arguments...)

fishamaphone - no. The Wii3 will be released *with* the PS4 or 730. Not before.

If your talking about cult buying being a fad.

Food is a fad.

Power bills are a fad.

Water bills are a fad.

Rent is a fad.

Guess... almost everything in the world is a fad.

A fad is not determined by price. However alot of people have previously stated, the Wii can not be a fad because it costs 250$.
Actually working minimum wage it would take over a week when you count taxes. However if your making minimum wage where I live... Rent for a 1 bedroom apt, is around 400$, power will run you around 100, water will run 50, phone will run you 50, and you add car insurance, car payment. Your well over 1000$/month bills. Holy shit. That is more than you make working minimum wage, full time. Lifes a bitch, then you die. Welcome to america where the goverment wants you to die. (That's why they wont give medicare to anyone where I live)

Exactly. I think the Wii will remain on top for 2-3 years. I expect PS3/360 sales to pass the Wii after the 'fad' label comes off. However the Wii will not end up like the GameCube. As the Wii will have massive support from early on because of the monster sales. Overall thought the entire generation, the Wii will have a uphill battle.

Each year that goes by, the PS3/360 will have a bigger graphical advantage, and more people will be HD-friendly.

The Wii will have the most exclusives of all consoles, however this is becuase of 2 reasons, and one of those will come back to haunt it.

1. The Wii will have the biggest 'single' userbase.

2. The wii isnt really a next gen console, and becuase of that reason it is MUCH cheaper to make games for.

Onward with 2. There are more things good and bad about that.

1. They can make the games for less, and make them faster.

2. The games wont look as good as the PS3/360 rivals games.

3. The games will have a much shorter dev cycle so there will be many MANY more crappy games. (not bad, but not really good)

4. Becuase of so many games there will be a market saturation thus makeing a single games sales go down. (bad for game devolopers)

5. Because it takes 6 months to make a game, they could pull out of the Wii market in 6 months flat.

The only thing the PS3/360 have going for them right now is, you can make a game for both of them. While to make a wii game, it will be an exclusive, or look like a PS2 game on the PS3, and a x-box game on the 360. (it wont sell much, and thus, be barely worth porting)

When PS3/360 sales surpass the Wii, that is when we will know how nintendo will do this time around. The Wii just dont have the power to hold up for very long this gen.

I fly this flag in victory!

Maybe (kinda plausible) the lead will be so big that they won't be able to catch up on Wii...

Cause: When is Halo 4 coming, and is it coming to X360 or the next Microsoft system...

And i'f PS3 is at 7-8 mil and Wii at 16-20 mil I don't see it coming back because of lacking support

THE NETHERLANDS

And so, in lieu of having a decent argument, Kwaad has reverted to random Nintendo bashing.

I'd just like this noted so that I may move on my way: Kwaad himself is taking his own thread off-topic because he can't back up his argument.

The Rubix Cube is called a fad, and it sold 300 Million of them.

I-pod is called a fad, and it has now sold above 100 million.

Hula Hoop is called a fad and that has sold well over a 100 million.

Yo-Yos are called a fad and they sold over a 100 million.

heck not only have most fads sold more units then any game system in existence, but they are all still around or from time to time make a come back. You still see all the above, you still see the tye-dye shirts, and lava lamps. They become are part of the culture. do you know Troll dolls started in the 60s? They came back in every decade since. Fad is also called a Craze, meaning people are going bonkers trying to get one. And then with anything that is that popular it dies out. And yet the Wii fills in that first part and will ultimatly fill in the last part, I don't think anyone is going to be going bonkers trying to find a Wii in 6-7 years from now. But any fan of the Wii that would like to see it do well will obviously be happy if it hits the sales of some of the fads above. Picture Nintendo, "Yeah we're a fad just like the rubix cube, we sold 300,000,000 systems in 5 years. And now that demand has dried up we are going to introduce to you a new fad."
