Thing is not only Mario had 2 days of sales. Those 240k 3DS were sold in 2 days also. That's really unreal for a redesign. PS3 Slim managed 237k in 4 days, but it was during the biggest week of the holidays + FF doing 1,5 mi (Wii did 210k for that week, for example, and DS 200k).

Doing those numbers alone in july-august in 2 days only is really a first. We can only imagine what'll happen in the holidays!

No, the redesign sold around 190k in 2 days, didn't it? And the normal model sold around 50k for the whole week.

Also, I am not sure what you mean by "PS3 slim did 237k in 4 days". Wasn't it a whole week?

1 - Yeah, you're right. Still, incredible numbers. Even more when we think this was not a price cut like most redesigns, but a price increase!

2 - It was released december 17th. The week began on december 14th. So it sold for 17, 18, 19 and 20th of December - 4 days.

The PSV is a headache that Sony could do without; especially considering their financial situation. I say drop the system and concentrate on home consoles. X720 is looking like a beast and the WiiU will launch a year ahead (at the very least) of PS4. Re-launching the system when it becomes financially viable is the only option.

No they shouldn't drop PSVita i would say it's the  acquisition of sony ericsson and gaikai it's the reason of loosing money why you don't say in 2007-2008 Sony should discount the PS3 because it was able to make a 5 billions lost for Sony?

wrong.

Well it's not like the $2.2b spend on EMI Music and $1.5b on Ericsson didn't made into the financial report was it. The Gaikai deal still needs to be approved but between the three Sony spent almost $4b on assets last year.

As for the Vita it would suffice to mention the gaming division was profitable before and it's sustaining small losses since it released.

2 - OH, right! Forgot it released at that time.

Edit: Actually, PS3 slim released in September 2009 >_>. It was the special edition FFXIII console that released in December

Yikes, that's true! I picked the best selling week of PS3 in japan, thinking it was the Slim launch for sure!

So the slim sold 150k week one (4 days). 54k second week. That FF week was surely epic for it in japan.

those vita sales make me sad. I keep forgetting to buy kingdom hearts on the 3DS.

Boring except for 3DS boom. HD consoles need a lot more software to sell more.

the software is there.

its just the market that is waiting for new consoles.

Well, if 2D Mario won't make 3DS sales explode in Europe I don't know what will.

Pokémon, I guess?

YOY

PS3 down 31k or 20%
360 down 44k or 33%
Wii down 70k or 55%

3DS up 289k or 450%
Psp + Psv down 47k or 36%

Sometimes I wonder whether Microsoft are going to cut the price or if they are going to keep it up to build up the perception of them being a 'premiere brand'. The good thing about their actions regardless is that people ought to be more willing to buy close to launch given the fact that they kept the price so consistant these past years and they covered their early mistakes with an extended warranty. With Sony I get the feeling that a price cut AND a revision are likely to be close at hand so sometimes I feel that buying on launch can leave you in the lurch on both.

I really don't think consumers are as complex as you make them out to be.

Is it just me or is 71k in Europe for the launch of the 3DS XL pretty low? Are people waiting for Mario yet again?

It does seem pretty low. But let's wait till Mario.
