Forums - Sony Discussion - Best Buy selling PS Display (24-inch) $199

PSA: Best Buy is having a sale on the 24-inch PS Diplay: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+Computer+Entertainment+America+-+PlayStation+3D+Display+Bundle/2891051.p?id=1218360683860&skuId=2891051&cmp=RMX

I just received this display as a gift and so far it is great. I mostly use it as second display for my laptop, as my only PS3 is hooked up to my main TV in the living room and the family uses the PS3 in there...so I will likey be getting a second PS3, but am hoping for a sale or price drop to $199 first. Anyway, I did try gaming on the PS display and they look great. I like being a bit closer to this 24-inch Display rather than across the room on my 46-inch plasma. Also, played about 15 minutes of Killzone 3 in 3D and it really looks good...I mean the 3D looks good. I was totally surprised at the coolnes of it...so were my kids and my nephew.

I think for $199 the PS display is a deal for anyone wanting a second PC display and wants to use the PS3 in a smaller set-up than the living room.

It shows how much it must have sold (or I should say not sold)

the first time I heard about the display I was a little bummed about how small it was. if it was at least a 32 inch. I would get it pronto.

When I was looking to replace my PC monitor I did a lot of research and considered a 3D display. I didn't read a single positive review. But that was back when it was close to $400. At $200 maybe priced closer to it's quality.

What resolution is it by the way? If it goes up to 1080p (1920x1080) then I might buy one to replace my PC monitor (Well, if I can find one cheap here in the UK), since I use this to play my PS3 too, it's a 24" so it'd be the same size. I used to use the 42" HDTV above my head for PS3 gaming, but now I can play PS3 games and watch tele at the same time, besides I've got an HDMI switch box so I can flick it back and forth between them whenever I like, win/win really, lol.

You might want to look into how well it works for a PC display. I have a TV as my PC monitor and there are some cons to go with the pros.

Pros: I can hook up anything, NES, Dreamcast, PC, etc.

Con: It doesn't wake from sleep mode when I move my mouse like a normal monitor. It's a little anoying that I always have to turn it on and wait a few seconds for it to come alive.

My TV is an RCA so it's possible that other TVs have better PC modes and act like computer monitors.

Since the Playstation Display doesn't have a DVI or VGA plug I'd be worried that it isn't even designed to work with a PC as well as my TV with which does have DVI and VGA in addition to all the rest. The PS Display only has two HDMI and one Component. Now you can easily adapt DVI to HDMI, but not VGA to HDMI. If you have DVI on your PC then it should work fine, but like I said it may not act like a PC monitor. Try to find someone who has it so you can ask specific questions like, "Does it wake up from sleep mode when the PC wakes up from moving a mouse"?

Just a FYI.

I use this display as one of my computer monitors. Had my PS3 hooked up to it for a while 3D on games is neat but I prefer playing it on my 46" TV. I paid $300 for it and while it is a bit steep for a monitor I find it preforms better then the 24" acer I have sitting next to it.

When your PC puts the display to sleep does the PS Display go into sleep mode or stay on? If it goes to sleep like a regular PC monitor does it wake back up when you move the mouse or do you have to turn it back on like a TV?

... Maybe it's just the poster's style or something but am I the only one struck by how much the post sounds like a marketing pitch?

PSA: Here's a new product and a link to buy it. I received one as a gift and it is great, I will probably buy a second PS3 to go with it. Gaming and 3D on it looked great and I was surprised by the coolness of it and so was my family! I think at this price it is a deal.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

I was going to buy this... until I saw the price-tag. For what it had, it wasn't worth that much.

Sony lost my sale there as I already bought a new TV, I'm sure that's how many people felt.
