Well, South Africa is a really random country.

Think of it, is South Africa really South or is it indeed North? If you were based in Antartica then you might consider it to be North of you but the name is actually South Africa so it would then cause confusion resulting in an overall unpleasant experience. While if you are situated in America it would, indeed, be south of you. While it could also be north of you depending which way you think of things.
