Forums - Gaming - Is Assassin's Creed II boring or does it just start off slow?

I've had a copy of ACII for nearly a year, but everytime I try to play it, I become bored and play something else. I want to change that today. There's nothing else to play and I have ACII, so I'm going to give it my best shot at having fun.

I've played about the first three or four hours and it's so damn boring. The fighting is terrible. Here is how fighting works. Lock on to target, wait for him to attack, press button to counter. Repeat until target is dead. Definitely the worst combat in any video game, except maybe Prince of Persia.

The platforming is trash also. I hate the controls for it. Why does he jump on his own? Fuck that shit! I want to press 'jump' to jump. The computer does everything for you. What type of bullshit is this? So far, it's pretty boring. The graphics are pretty though.

Anyway, I was wondering if the game improves after the first three or four hours, or does it pretty much stay the same. Will any new gameplay elements be introduced that'll make this game fun? (stealth, exploration, etc). I don't want to invest any more time into this game if it won't change. Thanks.

What did you like about this game? Honestly.

I think it gets a bit more stealthy, but if you're about 5 hours in, then don't really expect any drastic changes. I liked it a lot, whereas I didn't like it's predecessor at all.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I meant to ask this in the OP. What did you like about it?

That's my favorite AC so far for both story and game design.

Brotherhood had a few things that were better and a few that were not. Revelations, I'm having issues completing as its story is not really that good and a few things are rather annoying.

Hopefully AC3 will pull the best out of brotherhood and mix with AC2 for at best ending possible in the franchise.

What do you mean by game design? Specifically. Does it deviate from climbing shit & fighting people?

I kind of liked the story, which now became such a cluster fuck. I also like the wholy mythology behind it as well, there is a pretty bad cliffhanger at the end of this second one I think. Also the way it improved drastically on the first one, it was literally one of those games that saw a massive leap between the first and second iterations. I also liked the combat on it, climbing can get tedious sometimes and fucking ezio jumps of his own accord half the time, but the views + sometimes rewarding combat were worth it for me.

I think AC2 has the best balance of story movement and side stuff.

The fighting can be really easy or you can actually try to fight them vs just defense/counter. That makes it harder and more fun. Also, its good for trophy whores as its the easiest to get them all.

The climbing isn't bad.. I like it. But you have to know how to hit the right buttons and not just hold them while climbing. That's how you avoid accidental jumps.

You and I are so much alike. I got ACII a few months before Brotherhood. I can tell it's a quality game. I even got the bonus DLC. It was too much, though. Too much content. I was really enjoying it but I was ready for the game to end so I could jump on the next one. Other new games came out and I never played it again. I still want to finish it, though. It's a great game.

Or maybe we're not so much alike. A lot of the things I liked are things that you disliked. I liked the combat, the "platforming", and stuff. I liked building my Villa, hiring whores, and I liked the story.

This is surprising. How can anyone enjoy the combat? All you're doing is pressing the 'counter' button the whole time. Maybe it becomes more deep later on?
