What follows is a role playing experiment, and as such to participate in this experiment you must remain in character. There will be no exceptions outside of this post. If you choose to partipate your going to play as either one or two characters. You can choose to be either one, or both the choice is entirely up to you. That said you cannot participate without portraying at least one character. Posting outside of character is not acceptable so don't do it. We can have a lot of fun with this if people follow the rules, and don't derail the thread.
Character 1. Your aspiring to work for Sony as head of their console marketing department, and as luck would have it Sony is hiring a new lead. You are eminently qualified for this position. Sony is planning to launch a new console, and you need to sell them on your vision, strategy, and implementation. If you succeed at this you will be hired, and get a great salary plus benefits. If you fail your spouse is going to leave you, bankrupt you, and keep your dog. In a few years they will find your broken body in some gutter with track marks up both of your arms. So you better make a fantastic case that you are the guy for this job. You will need to tell them where you would advertise, what you think the message would be, and how it would look in its final form. This shouldn't be too hard after all you know what kind of add would sell you on a game console.
Character 2. Your a executive in charge of hiring at Sony, and to put it mildly your boss has put your ass on notice. One more bad hire, and you will not only lose your job with its great benefits, but insinutaions have been made that you will be found dead shortly there after. Your not sure, but you think your boss may have ties to the Yakuza, and he might have them execute you to serve as a warning to others. This guy is a win at any cost type of guy. You just want to make it to retirement, and there are going to be hundreds of applicants today, and your not going to like most of their ideas. Your just praying for one good applicant, because going back to your boss empty handed isn't a option.
Character 3. The ruthless boss who has little tolerance for disrespect of Sony as a world class company. He will not tolerate applicants who waste the precious time of his staff, or are disrespectful towards Sony. A applicant can be honest, but shouldn't go so far as to seen to be bashing. Likewise the boss isn't going to tolerate any executive that isn't respectful towards the company. He expects pragmatism, and actually encourages that kind of thinking. He however will in no way tolerate a executive that is utterly down on the company. The boss will be checking in on the interview from time to time. Assume the boss will have you killed if you go over the line. Those that are killed can no longer post. This character is reserved for the original poster, and will serve as a in role moderator for this discussion. Be warned the boss can be a charming fellow, but if you piss him off he can be a foul mouthed asshole. He will visciously protect Sony.
How to play if you choose to play. This is a game you can win, and it will be by what appears to be the popular consent. The only way to win the game is to be the applicant that makes the best case. You can either do this by making the best case alone, or you can choose to play both character one and character two. In that character one puts forth the idea, and character two shoots down the ideas of other applicants. You cannot use character two to support character one. You cannot put out a plan, and then back it up by playing as character two. Posters can participate as character two alone if they want to participate, but not compete themselves. By all means make it hard on applicants, but if you like someones idea speak up for them.
How to post simply write at the top (As Applicant) or (As Executive) You can switch up as often as you like, and respond to critique of your plan as the Applicant, but you cannot respond to them as a Executive. For the purpose of this game we will assume there are multiple executives across the table from the Applicant, and they can have different opinions. When you respond as a Executive be sure to name the applicant, and as a applicant identify the executive that you are responding to. Let's all agree that we are on a first name basis. For my part I will not play as either a Applicant, or a Executive. Anytime I post it will be As Boss.
I acknowledge up front that this is highly experimental. I don't know if this format will work for these forums, or even if this thread will find any traction, but I think it is worth a try. For no other reason that it does happen elsewhere online, and people generally have a lot of fun doing this. In the event that it flops out totally off the bat. Then the victory will be considered forfeit, or if only a few contribute the best faith effort will be vindicated. So have fun with this, and if it helps you can play as a character outside of your normal online persona. Which is what I will be doing so don't take anything I say personally. I will be playing a role in this too. Hopefully to some humorous effect.
Now if you feel you absolutely must post something out of character. Then do so at the very bottom of your post, and make sure to type that it is off topic. Just don't do two things. Don't make the majority of your post off topic, and don't just post off topic. Try contributing to the narrative. I would love to see how big the imaginations of some of the posters here really are.
Clarification.
Executives cannot fire applicants. They can ask them probing questions, dismiss their ideas outright, or even mock them. They however cannot remove any of the applicants from the game. The only way a player can be removed from the game is if the Boss removes them from the game.
