If you don't care then why come to a gaming forum? Why enter the thread? The point is that people who believe Sony when it talks about 10 year plans are deluded. Like I said, it is always up to the market to decide that. Will the PS3 have a 10 year span? Possibly but it hasn't even reached it's sixth year yet so has a LONG way to go. However we can pretty much guarantee that when the PS4 is announced and Sony likely again talk about a 10 year plan there will be fools nodding their heads.

PS1 1994-2006

PS2 2000 - present day

ps3 2006 - present day

psp  2005 - present day

I don't get your point. You say that Sony don't decide but they make these claims on there knowledge of the market and how long they plan on supporting that console. They proved that they can do it, twice with PS1 and PS2. The PS3 Just had it's two best years halfway through its 10 year plan and when sales do drop they will release a slim PS3 (no we havent had slim yet) for $99- $150.

The only console that looks likely to not make the 10 plan is the PSP but they still had good intentions of honoring the 10 life plan. But we still don't know their plans for PSP.

... good grief now I understand why Doogle is your avatar. Sony didn't prove they could do it. The market conditions a were such that they could do it. The PSP and PS3 have been no where near as successful in sales as the PS1 or PS2.

ALSO how long they plan on supporting the console? Well in that case the PSP had a 7 year span. Sony have released no games this year and as far as I know have no plans to.

Also they already did a slim PS3, it's even called the slim. Likewise reducing the size of the PS3 isn't anywhere near as easy as with the PS1 or PS2, what with the issues they have. They have also already done HUGE price drops in the last few years. Don't go expecting a new revision or further price drops anytime soon.

Oh and killerzX I know. You just took my own post and replied it back to me. It has been 7 years 5 months in Japan. Worldwide it varies though and everywhere else is less than that. In the EU it hasn't even hit 7 years yet.

About time. It's not like they had a big selection, usually its just a small rack.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Sony should make a PSN store add to check prices of games and compare them to what gamestop is offering

Stop being so pretentious. You're going to be one of those that will just argue and argue. I will try anyway and explain.

First of all yes they proved they can do a 10 year life span because they, well they did it. Like with the PS1 and PS2. When they prove they can do a 10 year cycle you say the market conditions let them BUT THEY STILL DID. Then go on as if the PSP and PS3 have died already and have failed to do a 10 year life cycle.

You are right about the PSP, thats why i said it's the only one likely  not to reach the 10 life cycle I told you this. PSP was plagued at the start with problems and piracy. never sold much games but it's still selling 7 years later. But yes there is has no support for it, just japan, because thats the only place where sw sells.

Yes they do have the  so called"slim" but I believe it's a redesign to rapidly reduce the production costs. Thats why I said I dont believe they have released the slim so less of your smug comments. I say this because traditionally the slim is alot slimmer that the original (this slim seem to concentrate on making it cheaper rather than reducing size), also the slims cost is a lot lower at retail and usually the slim come later in the consoles life cycle. And no I don't expect a price drop or a, super slim anytime soon. I also didnt say this. They will do it when the sales start to dip. They just come off the back of their best 2 years so why price drop?

Your post is full of wrong. Sorry but you go on about the market. What do you mean? the market is at it's best its ever been even through recession. It's the first time that 3 consoles have survived side by side. And the 360 and ps3 show no sign of giving up. You also act like you know about reducing the size of consoles. how do you kno they struggle to reduce the size? I think there will be a super slim in the future and the PS3 retail price will be sub $100 in the future. PS3 showing not even a little sign of not reaching 10 years.

So to conclude All their consoles have or well on the way to reaching 10 years. Except the PSP. Which is what I said in the first place. BYE!

I'm not saying they have already died. But the PSP has a long way to go and in the West support is pretty much already dead, stores are devoting tiny amounts of space to it etc. While the PS3 is still going reasonably strong it has even longer to reach 10 years. And will soon have to compete against the Wii U, Xbox3 and probably PS4.

It's not a ''so called'' slim. It is the slim. You want to know why a BIG redesign like with the Ps1 and PS2 is unlikely? The PS3 Slim was released in 2009, which hey by chance also happened to be when the Cell started being produced at 45nm. Which hey just so happened to also be the year that development on the PS3's cell was completely stopped.

It's not the first time 3 consoles have survived side by side. The fact we have Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft still should tell you that lol.

The market is at the best it's ever been through recession? What does this even mean? Hardware sales are down massively globally. In fact this April the PS3's NPD numbers were lower than in 2008, 2011 and going by given estimates probably 2010 too.

The PS3 might reach 10 years but it is still a very long way off and they aren't going to able to make it as mass market as they did with the PS1 and PS2 while staying profitable.

As I have been saying. Sony telling consumers their products will have 10 year life spans means nothing. It's not something they can guarantee.

They are down massively because of the massive fall of wii. 3rd party support is disappearin fast on the wii. The same fate won't happen to th the PS3 because in fact 3rd party support is getting stronger by year. We did a study on this. http://www.ps-analog.com/news/articles/games
The PS store is thriving http://www.ps-analog.com/news/articles/digital-downloads-vs-retail-the-rise-of-digital-downloads
My point is the PS3 platform is getting stronger and stronger. Please don't bring NPD numbers into this when we are talking about something much broader. 1 month of NPD numbers and youre predicting the decline of PS3.

And no it won't directly compete with 720, wii U and PS4. It will affect the sales yes but still will sell well. The PS2 sold well even with the PS3 wii and 360 on the market. What do you base your predictions on? You make up your own trends. Look at history. PSP wont make the 10 year mark is almost certain. I keep agreeing with you. But that was F**ked from the start. PS3 is not struggling with hardware, software, exclusive and 3rd party support. I don't know how you predict stuff when history is there in your face.

But hey everybody, PS3 sold less in one month in NA that another month. PS3 is doomed!!!

Just looking at my PS3 box. It doesn't mention Slim on it. I don't think it's ever been officailly called the Slim. I don't think it even did it's it's officail press release. If i can remember correctly it was called the new ps3 model. Could be wrong. Either way. slim or not. It will become very cheap on arrival of the PS4 and will still s ell well for years after the PS4 releases. History tells us this. Not your made up trends

No where have I predicted the decline of the PS3 or said it's doomed. I haven't even said it won't reach 10 years. In fact I didn't even mention the PS3 in my first couple of posts, you did. I then stated it would possibly reach 10 years. Again living up to the Doogle name. As I have constantly said it can possibly reach 10 years but that 10 years is going to be a stretch for the PS3. Just because the PS1 and PS2 did it it doesn't mean that magically it is set in stone that the PS3 will.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-160GB-Slim-Console/dp/B005EL3ACK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337195850&sr=8-1 SLIM, gaming sites announced it as the slim, on wikipedia the section is labelled PS3 Slim etc etc. It is the slim. Although I nicely see you just pretended to have not noticed the reasons why further slim revisions will be difficult, I guess you will just ignore any points where you are wrong?

I mean some of your logic is just bordering on insane. You say Wii is suffering lower sales because 3rd parties have stopped supporting it, but that this won't happen with the PS3 and it is simply going to get more 3rd parties every year.... really? You honestly think that once the Wii U, PS4 and 720 are out that the PS3 will get more support? You seem to think that because the PS2 kept selling well once next gen was out that of course the PS3 will. Sales wise the PS3 is no-where near close to what the PS2 was. The PS2 was an industry leading juggernaut. The PS3 is fighting for second place.

My made up trends of actual sales figures vs your trend of.... doogle logic. Yes the wiis decline has contributed, but the numbers still show that the PS3 is down YoY as well. Lets see from the numbers I can find 2011 Jan-April NPD PS3 is 1239k, Jan-April 2012 NPD PS3 is 1072k. Although I should clarify that for 2012 the Jan numbers are not available, simply that Wii+PS3 were 281k, so I very generously estimated PS3 at 200k. Again not saying those are bad sales, the ps3 is doing great. However you statement that it shows no signs of giving up coupled that it just had it's two best years implies you think it has yet to peak. We are coming up the the next gen, all this generations consoles are bound to see sales start to dip.

Although I now see you write for a PS3 fan site so I guess that explains that.

I will not arue with you because you arent worth it, Instead i'll show you a recap.

you- I could be wrong but wasn't the PSP also meant to have a 10 year life? It's only at the start of it's seventh and is already beginning to disappear. First party support seems to be entirely gone with only 4 titles the entirety of last year and I don't think any planned for this year.

Although I think everyone always knew the whole 10 year life thing was nonsense. It is and always will be a decision the market makes, not a company.

10 year life in EU and NA? Verging on no chance. In Japan? Ehhh not likely. It will probably still be being sold but I doubt Sony themselves will still be making and publishing games.

Me - 10 year plan for PSP. No chance in eu or na. But 10 year life worked for PS2 and more than likely will for the PS3.

Lol you still haven't answered any of my points. You still have no idea why a new slim would be so difficult. You are still ignoring that the PS3's sales are no-where near those of the PS1 or PS2. You still think 3rd party support will increase on Ps3 when next gen consoles come out LOL! You are saying ''Things were like this in the past, so will be like this in the future'' I am showing you that in the present Sony isn't in that position. Nintendo supported the NES and SNES for over 10 years each, by your logic the N64 MUST have been supported for at least 10 years.  But it wasn't, because of sales.

Also if it's just when Sony itself supports the console, as you just said, then actually the PS2 was finished last year. One game in 2011 and nothing in 2012. Likewise if that is your definition then the PSP is possibly already done. They have good intentions of honouring the plan? So to you the fact they have almost entirely stopped supporting it already with years to go is proof they are planning to continue to support it?

Just keep working on your poorly written fan site.
