Because all core gamers wanted to play Pilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, and Nintendogs + Cats with their new 3DS.

And Resident Evil, and Splinter Cell, and Street Fighter IV, and Ocarina of Time, and Metal Gear Solid, and Dead or Alive, and Fire Emblem, and ...

...aaaand I was talking about the first party titles :)

I <3 this. Good job Nintendo. It's not about going Gamecube on us guys, it's about Breadth and Depth, starting with depth as your foundation. Sure it comes at a cost, but on the long run it pays off as he said.

Will you sell your PS3 for the Wii U?

OT: Good for you Nintendo! I hope they keep this up though... that was one of my gripes with them.

lol...should make it clearer next time then.  Anyways it's good that the 3DS has more core games coming from 3rd party than first party anyways!

If you polish a joke too much people will be able to see right through it.

It makes sense...I did notice that the 3DS(best handheld bar none) has a good balance of core and casual games in comparison to the original DS!!! Also, this probably has to do with the hardware's capabilities since the 3DS and Wii U competes/will compete well against their counterparts in the visual department; Nintendo has no need to mask their games with casual gimmicks. Anyways, I fully expect the Wii to drop down to $99 a short while after the Wii U releases and it'll probably be the system Nintendo will continue to use to battle MS Kinect and Sony's Move.

Nintendo pulled the plug out of the wii a while ago. Because of their small size, they had to chose: push either the wiiU or the wii - To do both would fail either way. They chose the first.

This is terrible denial or misinterpretation of the situation.

Could you elaborate?

Nintendo thought the Wii strategy... failed?

Consumers of Wii Sports were perfectly willing to carry on buying similar games. Nintendo just didn't make any. They made WSR (2009), but their time and effort was clearly put into other things. 2006 and 2009 were the only years with a big first party "casual" game push, the rest was all core games or WTFness like Wii Music.

In any case the 3DS strategy is a terrible thing to want to emulate. Release no games for it for a year, then cut the price so you lose money per unit.

But at the same time they also lost a good share of their market to the competition, and gave them too much footing to be comfortable about it, all the while alienating a large market.

Nintendo can get the casuals at the snap of a finger, they need not even worry about it.
Once they secure the core, they just need to snap their fingers again.

until i dont see, i dont belive
