Forums - Gaming Discussion - IGN: Valve Looking for Engineer to Build New 'Platform Hardware'

Valve may have said that a "Steam Box" isn't coming any time soon, but that doesn't mean that the PC-based home console from the developer isn't already in the works.

A new job posting has popped up on Valve's site, looking for an Electronics Engineer to "invent whole new gaming experiences" and "Work with the hardware team to conceive, design, evaluate, and produce new types of input, output, and platform hardware." The posting also makes reference to prototyping experience, knowledge of board layout and hardware definition languages, and ARM/X86 system design.

While there's no mention of an actual console, it's very obvious that the company is working on gaming hardware of some sorts.

Hmm, not sure what to think about this, depends on whether they're actually looking to make a game console, or something else.

We'll be watching you Valve for your announcement of the: 'Half Life 3 Box'.

You heard it here first folks!

It was wearable for computer research!

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

so i guess this would mean that they would be going head to head with Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft then??

do they realise how hard it is going to be to compete with them?

what is their 1st party looking like compared to Sony, Nintendo and MS's? will they have full 3rd party support? will people even think about buying multiplats on their console over the PS4 and 720?

the console is going to fail if it's true. Valve don't know what the hell they are getting themselves into LOL

the only people that would really care about this console are probably the PC guys..

..maybe i'm just being too harsh about it though

So, i wonder what Apple's CEO Tim Cook was doing at the Valve HQ...

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

Maybe I would buy it. Steam is nice and the games could be optimised directly on the Hardware configuration thats in the box and look stunning. A good Controller + KB/Mouse option for games that require it. And a nice selection of games right from the start. No Windows means way more power just for the games. And if Half Life 3 ends up being PC/Steambox exclusive I will buy it.
