Forums - Gaming Discussion - Official iOS Gaming Thread!

If you're new, this thread is for discussion, news and recommendation of all things gaming in the App Store. This thread is created by popular demand and the dead threat messages I recieved for making too many Game threads which get the hopes up and then they find out it's for iOS. Please recommend or review a title, cause there are lot of games and I can't cover everything..

We also have an unorganized list of GameCenter IDs of everyone here that takes part in the thread.
Below you will find the official list, leave a wall post or PM me if you want to get on the list.

vgchartzname - gamecenter
NiKKoM - nikkom_nl
famousringo - famousringo
TomaTito - Tito.Pod
twesterm - twesterm
Manuelf - MANUELF25
Euphoria14 - Euphoria62309

*Please remember that people live in different timezones.. so adding me on Gamecenter at 2 in the night, which actually woke up my gf thinking I was texting with "someone" (another girl.. in woman language) is not cool...

openfeint | plus+

Challenges

App Of The Day: The Hacker

The Hacker (iOS)

One of the major differences between Android and iOS is the fact that Apple, whether users like it or not, wants to control the entire experience presented on iPhone and iPad. There’s no room for tinkering, and very little experimentation beyond what’s available on the App Store.

Although we’re perfectly fine with the closed iOS platform, sometimes we daydream about being a hacker. Sure, we could try to learn that stuff, but we’re lazy. That’s where a game like The Hacker comes in.

In The Hacker by Gaspar Mereu, you’re presented with an old school monochromatic terminal screen familiar to anyone who remembers life before Windows and Mac OS X. The flickering, sickly-green screen is your gateway into a geopolitical world of hacking.

After you tinker with the main screen, complete with Network and Mail options (everything game-generated, so the only connection to the outside world is GameCenter achievements), you’re approached by a faceless hacking group to show off your skills in a variety of challenges.

These tests come in the form of several minigames that are more like puzzles. One has you playing the memory game with a bunch of hidden cards, while another has you guiding a ball of light through a narrow maze on your way to unlocking the next data cluster.

The more you hack, the more XP you receive and the further the story progresses. It’s actually pretty intriguing to see where the narrative goes, and the difficulty ratchets up as you make your way around the world, hacking computers from here to China.

The XP also allows you to “repair” (i.e. unlock) mini games for your own gaming pleasure. For example, the famous “snake” game where you have to eat apples while your snake grows is the first one you can afford to unlock. While these games aren’t tied to the story, they offer a nice diversion when you get brain fatigue from the puzzles.

That said, we thoroughly enjoyed The Hacker and suggest you download it, in large part because the game is free for a limited time. More importantly, it lets you sneak through cyberspace without attracting unwanted attention. And, you know, going to prison.

whats that?  game for ios?  i have ipad and iphone if so....?

Well for sure on Iphone.

you play the role of president and CEO to a startup game developer. Name your studio whatever you like, hire your first set of staff and you're off to the races. From there you'll have to select from a growing list of genres and game types and put development muscle behind specific facets of your game (from the game's original proposal, to the graphics, creativity and sound) with the hopes that it'll sell to one of Game Dev Story's many demographics.

As you work your way through your 20-year career (you can play longer, but your high score won't increase) you'll be treated to many subtle and not-so-subtle jabs at our industry. Take, for instance, the consoles and their manufacturers in the Game Dev Story world. There's the Intendro Whoops, the Sonny PlayStatus and PlayStatus 2, there's the Microx 480 and many, many more that I won't spoil. On top of that, I found myself hiring staff members named Gilly Bates and Stephen Jobson as well as Shigetu Migamoto.

Each of these staff members has different job titles and levels of experience and salary; all of which can be changed by spending the game's different types of currency (research points and cold-hard cash). You'll start with a bunch of level 1 Coders who don't know a normal map from a Z-axis and you'll wind up with level 5 Hackers who can churn out an entire game in a single night (not really, but close).

Game Dev Story's biggest strength is bringing you into the world of managing a fledgling game development studio and then celebrating its awesome successes as your bank roll climbs into the hundreds of millions. You have to worry about targeting demographics, investing in a specific direction for your game, gaining experience with different game genres and making sure that your staff has enough talent to bring home the bacon.

As your games gain in popularity you'll start earning more cash, at which point you can unload some of your company's dead weight and hire on new talent. As you continue to grow your games will eventually make it into the hall of fame if they're of a high enough quality (as judged by in-game game reviewers), you'll attend trade shows where you can hire booth babes and you can develop sequels to your most highly regarded games. If all of that sounds exhausting; it is. But it's exhausting in the most addictive way you could imagine.

I bought Max Payne today, great memories! Runs pretty smooth on iPad 2 and plays well, although almost impossible without auto aim.

I also noticed an Infinity Blade II update but it was to big to fit (iPad 2 16gb) after i downloaded Max Payne. Does the update come with any worthwhile features?

The quality and investments in ios games are rising up like crazy:

Republique - a new iOS game by Ryan Payton [Kickstarter up, 500k goal]

Quote:
The game follows a young girl named Hope who is being held captive in a mysterious totalitarian state. Using a contraband phone, she calls you and asks for help. Hope isn't a puppet, and sometimes she might even disagree with you—that is, if you tell her to do stupid things. You goal is to not only help her, but also protect her. This is République.

Via her contraband cell phone, you can hack into the state's surveillance network and help her escape. You can tap on in-game cameras to "warp" into them and see the room and spaces from different points-of-view. The game doesn't feature any killing, and Hope can use only the limited supplies she finds. "The game is all about voyeurism, paranoia, censorship and control," said developer Ryan Payton.

Sounds pretty interesting

If their is an badge for stealing posts from other forums then I will win one for sure =p. Anyway thx to neogaf and kotaku for this news.
