Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U Cost Of Manufacturing Detailed

Wait, isn't 3DS' parts like, around a $100 or something?

Nice, hope most of this is true.

They're not going to sell the controller at material costs.

Xbox360 controllers, for example, cost about $11 to make, yet they sell for a much higher proce than that. I saw an article on Wiimotes and PS3 controllers too that were similar but I can't find them atm.

This is due to the fact that manufacturing these thing isn't just about cost of materials, it's also about R&D, packaging, shipping, retailer's cut, and most of all, profits.

Wondering if nintendo will ship the console with the wii u pad + reg wii motion+ remote, with a demo game much like wii sports was. What are the costs of the wii mot+? either way @ 299.99 make me happy :)

While the source is certainly questionable, the conclusion sounds reasonable to me. WiiU (with a bundled game) at $299 would likely break even (or at worst be sold at a very tiny loss, ala the Gamecube), and at that price would sell through the roof.

At 299$ Nintendo will give you the console the tablet and likely a tech demo like game like WiiSports. Their won't be any additional features at least if their is it would need to be a preorder deal or early adopter deal. Nintendo needs that 55$ profit on each unit they can't make much less then that if they hope to end the year with a profit!

Thing is controllers are cheap as hell to make, probably around $15, meaning it's an easy way to make profit - Nintendo won't be making any profit if they sell it for the current price.

"Microsoft’s Kinect cost $56 after tearing it apart

  • Wii U controller’s cost of materials would be slightly less than what Kinect cost"

I'm not sure if you are with me or against me, but I will take that info as support.

If Kinect is similar to WiiU's tablet in pricing and retails for $150, it is even less likely Nintendo would sell theirs for ~$50.

I'm against you. You said the controllers are cheap to make and probalby only $15, I provided this rumor from the article which says it costs about ~50.

So there's  a high chance the controller will retail for $100+ like someone said in the first page.

I support you, if the cost to make them goes to around $30, Nintendo will most likely sell them for $80 or $90. But the console comes with one and oficially it will only support one, so the only reason to buy a second one is if you need a replacement and we know that Nintendo makes thing that last forever.
