Epic, here's the problem; most PC gamers have stopped caring about you and your games a long time ago...

Feelings (caring) are irrelevant. If they produce a good game it will sell, end of argument.

If a developer has estranged themselves on a platform, that is hardly irrelevant.

again, if the game is good, it will sell. We're talking video games here not human rights. Even someone like me who despises (feelings and caring) Epic/Cliffy/Gears will gladly put my money down if they produce a good game.

A proper Unreal sequel would really be appreciated.

I doubt it's going to be a new UT and if it is, it'll probably suck.

Probably a free 2 play shooter

This seems pretty likely. A lot of developers are looking into this model as it just rakes in money. Even when only 10% of players pay for content the developers using this model seem to be priting money.

Noo every week you will have to pay money to get the latest shit that the devs release. and if you don't pay then you are at a disadvantage. Soon enough the game ends up costing you more then it would of if you had to pay a retail price for it. I hope the next UT game is not free to play.

Or they could go for the not play to win model

The good free to play games just offer cosmetic items and "boosts" that allow you to unlock things quicker. Games like League of Legends for example where everything is available for free if you play enough. And if you want you can buy skins or pay to unlock things a bit faster, but as everything is in theory blanced you aren't really getting an advantage over people who don't play so the skilled player will still win.

Most FPS multiplayer these days has a grind to unlock better guns, and some retail games offer the ability to pay to unlock things faster. The only difference in a F2P game would be that you don't have to pay anything to play.

Of course a true Unreal game doesn't have unlockable weapons as they are scattered in the level. But there are plenty of cosmetic things that they could sell.

‘Fortnite’ Platform Listing Changes After Epic’s PC Announcement

After an Epic Games’ PAX East panel consisting of Epic president Mike Capps and design director Cliff Bleszinski revealed their plans for a PC-exclusive title, the near-spontaneous reaction was to ask what the title was.

Unfortunately, it turned out that Cliffy B and Mikey C weren’t ready to divulge that information just yet — but the speculation continued unencumbered. Epic made no mention of whether or not the title was an unannounced IP, and so, with the upcoming Infinity Blade: Dungeons locked in as an iOS release, it wasn’t long before the developer’s recently-revealedFortnite was brought up for discussion.

Even though the colorful construction/survival game — which we glimpsed briefly in a VGA debut trailer — is thought to be a multiplatform downloadable release, Joystiq asked outright if Fortnite was, in fact, the aforementioned PC-exclusive. The response was more of a deflection, but it never fully denied the question’s premise.

“Yes, we’re working on a PC game. No, it’s not a port. Yes, you’ll have to wait to find out more,”

While we wait though, it appears that Epic Games producer Chris Mielke has gone about augmenting the platform listing of Fortnite on his LinkedIn profile.

Superannuation found that Mielke’s status for his work on Fortnite lists the title as “Fortnite (TBD).” Quite humdrum. However, with an accompanying Google cache search, it was discovered that “TBD” was “Fortnite (PC) as recently as Sunday night:

Why the sudden change? How long was it listed as “PC?” Was Mielke attempting to eliminate confusion… or was he plugging up a leak? All of the questions add interesting wrinkles to the curiosity surrounding Epic’s surprising announcement.

That said, with Fortnite already making a splash four months ago at the VGA’s, it’s unlikely that Epic would suddenly peg it as a PC exclusive — as if the addendum was a sheer afterthought. Epic certainly has a wealthy catalog of franchises capable of being resurrected for their PC audience (or what remains of it after a lengthy absence from the platform), and an Unreal Tournament rebirth, a Gears of War offshoot, or a brand new IP all seem like more viable possibilities.

Ranters, what do you want out of Epic’s next PC title? How would you react if Fortniteturned out to be an exclusive for the platform?

I never thought Epic was in the charity business.

Investing millions into a game only to market it to people that by nature are pirates.

Let me atttempt to fix this extreme case of ignorance here. Epic exists solely, and only, because of the PC.

Your equally if not more ignorant due to Epic, since 2006, making most of its money off consoles, namely the Xbox 360. Epic also makes most of its money liscensing the Unreal Engine....which you guessed it, mostly is used towards console titles.

Epic may have started with the PC, but now its consoles. Going back to just PC is going to be disastrous sales wise.

Why did they make most of their money off consoles? Hmm maybe because practically their only worthwhile franchise was 360 exclusive? (Well, except Gears 1)

Going back to PC won't be disastrous if they do it the right way.

You neglected their profits from unreal engine licensing to 3rd party console devs. I dont understand your Gears comment. Yes I know it was exclusive and Gears 1 made tons more money then its PC version. Im talking results here, I dont need people explaining the "why".

Their PC title will have massive pirating and we all know it. Your gonna hear an announcement of a 360 port 3 months after release.
