Forums - Gaming Discussion - Graphics 2008 - Highpoints and Lowpoints so far?

I just thought I'd start a post referring to games you think show great graphical promise and others that are disappointing you.

I'll start!

Highpoints so far:

  • Burnout Paradise - looks very nice and runs at a blistering 60fps (very few games do this).
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 - looks very nice, can't wait to see in action first hand.

Lowpoints so far:

  • Grand Theft Auto 4 - graphically looks so so and the frame rate in the trailers is terrible. We are only 4 months away from launch and I really hope they sort it out.
  • Tomb Raider: Underworld - not the huge leap graphically I was expecting, although it looks like it wont release until the end of the year, so plenty of time to catch up.
  • NiGHTS on Wii - sorry it's already out!!

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Crysis - Great promise
Cruis'n - I was so dissapointed after seeing early screenshots. I thought for sure this was a GT5 killer.

To Each Man, Responsibility

You didn't say which was your high and low points Sqrl and i'm struggling to know which you were impressed with

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

Too human is looking pretty excellent graphically, as is Ninja Gaiden two. MGS4 looks impressive, though I think gameplay rather than graphics will be necessary to make it truly AAA. I was reading that there are currently some slight frame-rate issues and screen-tearing that may result in the game being locked at 30fps rather than 60fps.

Honestly I'm excited about mgs4 but I'm not that impressed by it's graphics. I think 2 Days 2 Vegas new screen shoots looks awfully impressive. I'm hoping Heavy Rain delivers on all these amazing close ups pics. But so far I'm mot impressed with Alan Wake GT5.

As far as low points I'm not sure what I'd pick out yet, I know there will be alot of developers that will make Wii games that just don't push the system at all. Which is sad, just because the emphasis isn't on graphics doesn't mean we should get a bunch of titles that look like they came out 5 years ago on the ps2.
