I rock a Touchpad and it really irks me when people go "ooh you have an iPad"
No I bloody don't. I don't want to run itunes or whatever. Keep that shitty bloatware away from me

Next time someone says that offer to sell it to them. Make a nice $200 profit

Bloatware? How about the easiest way to get music. (IMO)

easiest way to get music? Itunes? Errr no. The Bay of Pirates has you covered there.

If they gave me an iPad I wouldn't care if it's a 1, 2, or 3 as long as I got to keep the dang thing at the end of the day...haha. Of course I know that wouldn't happen but it would be awesome if it did.

Think about it. You have 50'' TV at 1080P and that's awesome.
Now, you have a 10'' screen with twice the resolution. You're going to be able to tell the massive difference?

Ugh, this argument makes me want to smash my face through a plate glass window.

You know what has a really shitty ppi (pixels per inch) resolution? A digital billboard. You know why it doesn't matter? Because you never get within 100 feet of a billboard.

You know why a 1080p resolution is just fine for a 50" television? Because you rarely get closer than 10 feet while watching it. Go ahead and stick your face 18" from your television and then tell me how fucking wonderful its resolution looks at that distance. It's utter shit but it doesn't matter because televisions are meant to be watched from a distance of several feet.

You hold a tablet ~18" from your face. Maybe 24". At that distance, the ppi has to be much higher or you'll see individual pixels. That's why the iPad's Retina Display matters (and as an iPad 2 owner who played with an iPad 3 last night, it most definitely is noticeable).

The "but my TV has a lower resolution than my tablet derp derp!" argument shows a gross misunderstanding of why higher ppi matters on some devices and not others.

If you like doing that then yes. If you like not doing something illeagal then no.

If you like to steal shit from people, sure. Some of us prefer to pay for products when they're easy to buy and priced fairly. You know, supporting things you enjoy. A novel concept but one that ensures continued productivity from the artists and creators you admire.

So is the moral of the story that the iPad2 is still surprisingly competitive even a year later? Sounds about right to me. I love my Touchpad, it was a steal at $129 and is even better with dual-boot ICS, but the iPad is still a great piece of kit and unlike what has been suggested you don't need iTunes to set it up or use it. Thank god because iTunes really sucks.
