Forums - PC Discussion - Will PC gaming ever become bigger then console?

Bigger in what way?  Number of people?  Probably already is.  Total revenue?  Maybe.  Sales of big budget retail games?  Probably never.

@ieatbabies

PCs like the Apple II and Commodore 64 both predate the NES and have hundreds of games.

I typed " Didn't become slightly popular until late 90's- end of 90's." I never said no games didn't exist on any computers predating the 90's

The only good amount of gaming I can see on a PC is starcraft.

I certainly hope not. The PC, in my opinion, is good for flash games and a few "actual" games here and there. Not console gaming.

and what would PC game revenue exeeding console revenue have to do with that? It's not like consoles would dissapear just because there was more money in PC gaming.

I never understood why people feel the need for everything they don't personally use to die or not be successful.

I never said I wanted PC gaming to die or be un-successful. I don't think that PC gaming should become bigger (or will) than console gaming. Console gaming is dedicated and PC gaming isn't. It's kind of like the Android/iOS vs Handheld thing. One is made for gaming one isn't necessarily.

Looking a bit further into the future than everyone else ( a little bit) I think the distinction will disappear. Services like OnLive will eventually be far more practical and desirable for the average consumer than local hardware. The platforms - however many consoles there are, and pc gaming - will transition to being solely service-based.

Ultra fast (fiber to the door) internet is still 15+ years away from making that feasible tho, it is the future just not one we will be seeing any time soon outside of a few main centers anyway.

Well, thanks, that's why I qualified my prediction with "Looking a bit further into the future than everyone else ( a little bit)".

except that PC's generally have better graphics, and more customizable controls, which could include a controller, or a wii mote, or some other device.

while android/ios is generally inferior in both of those departments.

True, I just find it less welcoming (I guess you could say that) than an actual gaming console. It's my personal preference. I know PC gaming is quite big and I'm not posting here to bash it , I just don't like it.

that's fine, there are distinct advantages. Such as, not having to worry about hardware, etc (Though the xbox RRoD and PS3 YLoD put some problems with this issue.) And knowing that the games are optimized for (coded correctly) for each set of controls. Being too big. as well as others.

I just didn't agree with your general comparison.

I know it was a little general but I tried something as close as I could get. Sorry.
