Forums - Gaming Discussion - EDGE: Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D looks better than the HD version

Gaming Everything

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D’s visuals have gotten a lot of flack ever since Konami shared the first screenshots and footage of the game. Fans criticized its seemingly textures, poor frame rate, and overall disappointing graphics.

In the end, it seems that Kojima Productions was able to pull things together. Details have started to emerge from EDGE’s review of Snake Eater 3D, and the magazine was apparently more than impressed with the studio’s work on the title’s visuals. EDGE went as far as to say that “the HD update doesn’t look as good as this portable treatment.”

EDGE wrote in its review:

“Packed with detail, both in terms of it’s environments and mechanics, this is a game that pays back investment in spades. MGS3 is a moden classic – the tighest, smartest and most emotional journey in the series – and even the HD update doesn’t look as good as this portable treatment.”

EDGE gave Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D an 8/10. You can find more scores from the magazine’s latest issue here.

I've played the demo, and while the game looks good, I'm not sure if it looks that good.

Based on the demo, I'd say that the game looks about as good as ever. The textures are a bit bleh, but that's more due to the improved camera than anything else, and the framerate drops at points, but the colors make things easier to see, and the 3D is both pretty and useful. I'm tempted to rebuy the game and the Circle Pad Pro.

Love and tolerate.

yes it does look that good i played the demo and playing the hd version on my xbox360 right now ., they added some detail to the trees and such ,, also the map helps an awful lot instead of pausing just to get to one ,

its better and the best part-its portable

Looking at my sig, you'll see that two of the last five PS3 games I played were from the HD Collection. I haven't played Snake Eater HD, yet but I have played the 3DS demo and every single other version of Snake Eater made. I don't know if it ends up looking better than the HD version on the PS3 but I do know that it looks better than Subsistance did when I played the PS2 disc upscaled on my PS3 (Backwards compatible PS3's sharpen the visuals on many PS2 games).

I think the hate came from when Konami pulled a Killzone 2 on us and showed what they thought they could do on the 3DS instead of what they were able to do. The 3DS version doesn't look as good as that footage but it DOES look better than any version I've ever played--especially with the 3D running.

I played the demo and the frame rate drops at times ...still a nice game the 3d is nice

sure it would look good as its on a small screen

For me, the only reason I went for the demo was to see how the game would look on the smaller screen. It was missing most of the elements from the full retail release (weapons, easter eggs, codec calls) and I feel like it loads more slowly. Could be all in my head. Even the awesome Resident Evil Revelations demo was VERY different from the incredibly superior retail game.

Crazy that I'm going to walk into the store and buy a 360 game, a 3DS game, and a Vita all on the same day.

Im sure that it does look better but since it's on a 3.5 inch screen I'd prefer the visuals of the HD versions.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Nintendo would pack 2 screens in their next console, one of which was a touch screen in your hands, and using these 2 screens they would give the console a the ability to play DS/3DS games?

Wait a minute...

looks good only if you turn the 3D on, and if you crawl there's more detail i think, and i believe the final version looks better, so EDGE is probably right

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
