Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Update: Halo 4 playable from start to finish?

GameBandits

We all know that many gamers are waiting for Halo 4, which is coming as an Xbox 360 shooter. So, we could understand how rumors could start flaring up about it. The new rumor has it that the game will come with multiplayer bots. As with many other video game speculations, this one rose up from an employee’s resume. Brandon Layton has been working as programmer for Halo 4 starting July 2011. Some of his listed duties include the following:

  • He worked on the automation using the language C# and in-game C++ for the creation of bots for a more challenging multiplayer.
  • Using the C# language, he was able to create automated bots. These bots will be testing both multiplayer and single player/campaign environments.
  • He customized a tool that made it possible for team members to make use of bots in their consoles the whole night. He used SQL database to allow simultaneous bot running.

If the above were really the duties of programmer Brandon Layton there could still be another possibility other than Halo 4 featuring multiplayer bots. The bots Layton have created make actually be used mainly and only as development tools that the team members can use to test maps.

The Halo series is known for its enemy AI, which is able to give gamers a lot of great, unique experiences. Coming from this AI to the use of bots to use for multiplayer teams is not such a big jump. Single player campaigns using bots are also possible. No wonder there are some speculations that are pushing the idea of multiplayer bots coming around for Halo 4.

Having bots in Halo 4 multiplayer would be really sweet, but I guess they would never understand the supposed objective and such on forge maps so I wouldn't be too disappointed if they weren't there...

I hope this is true. I've always liked setting up a game of bots and enjoying the shooting gallery. Online multiplayer can often be frustrating because of all the people who are so much better than you. With bots you can get to know the levels and learn the best strategies before going up against real people.

Hi every one I just wanted to let you know this is not what you truely think it is.
This was what Total Sellout(343 employee on the Halo Waypoint forums) had to say about this matter.

Hey all. Just wanted to pop in here for a second to offer a bit of an explanation and clarification to this rumor.

If I've learned anything when dealing with hot breaking "internet news", it's that context is king. This is another example of that. The mention of bots listed on that particular resume is referring to test automation bots which are an entirely different beast from a multiplayer computer-controlled character capable of holding it's own against human opponents. So while, we do use very simple bots for automating some simple test bots, the story as it has been presented is not true.

Well, then I just barely forgive you ;)

That man has a interesting job.

Anyways, I'm not too concerned with bots in Multiplayer, for FireFight it's fine IMO, but can't really say I've desired them in Halo MP.

Halo might as well have bots too. It's got everything else you can pack in a title, ahead of its time with SP and co-op and skulls and online co-op and MP and forge and theater and firefight and external stat integration etc. etc. COD and Gears and a select few other titles are following suit, but they've been doing this quite awhile now.

Seriously Halo 3 was packed, and Reach went further. Halo 4 needs to add SOMEthing else. Why not bots? And a drink dispenser? And popcorn.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Hmm, I wouldn't say so. Perfect Dark had a full-blown co-op before Halo: CE was released :)
