A Top 10 PC Games of 2012 list was recently published on IGN, and I noticed quite a few comments complaining that most of the games were multiplatform. So here you go, a list of games that will only be available on PC. The list below is very far from comprehensive, but includes many games currently expected to be released in 2012. Some titles, like Diablo III, might show up on other platforms, but for now are PC exclusives.
It's also possible not all these games will be completed before the year is over, but we can hope.
Quick quote: "One of the main goals of the project is to deliver a more accessible single-player story campaign that gradually ramps up the challenge instead of tossing you into the deep end and expecting you to stay afloat."
Quick quote: "Blacklight: Retribution might end up being the most visually impressive free-to-play game out there when it launches."
Quick quote: "When it comes to sweet questions like "why dodge an incoming missile if you can punch it back at the metal jerk that fired it at you in the first place," Cobalt has all the right answers."
Quick quote: "Diablo is basically item porn. If you're not hard-wired to obsess over acquiring a cool-looking armor set and min-maxing your stats, you might not appreciate what Diablo has to offer."
Quick quote: "It's about two teams of five heroes beating each other up until one can destroy the base of the other. Though the goal is simple, the actual gameplay experience is anything but."
Quick quote: "The game's visuals are simple and identifiable, and for the most part I found it fairly easy to differentiate between my artillery and my tanks."
Quick quote: "It also has totally sweet jetpacks, is set in a large open world, is free to play and cures lupus. Okay, that last one was a lie, but the rest is true."
Quick quote: "…someone from the government in 2060 travelled back in time to give the Union future technology to balance things out."
Quick quote: "Guild Wars 2 already poured me a cup of tea, inviting me in with a smarter way of doing this whole MMO thing."
Quick quote: "Mech combat games aren't common these days, so it's great that teams like Adhesive Games are working to keep the genre alive."
Quick quote: "Jagged Alliance: Back in Action takes the cult-classic strategy game Jagged Alliance 2 and brings it (somewhat) into the current decade."
Quick quote: "There's always a problem. Even after assembling the Knights of the Roundtable and saving Britannia from imminent doom, the threats to King Arthur have only just begun."
Quick quote: "We still have yet to see MechWarrior Online running, but the early details make it sound like there will be plenty to do outside of shooting at foes."
Quick quote: "Microsoft is taking its most hardcore piece of gaming software out of the hands of a niche audience and giving everyone a chance to play."
Quick quote: "Neverwinter is shifting from the co-operative multiplayer game that was announced last year and into full-fledged, free-to-play MMO territory."
Quick quote: "Path of Exile plays just like Diablo. You create a character, picking from one of five typical fantasy archetypes such as a fighter and caster, then drop into the world and start clicking."
Quick quote: "The core idea for Planetside 2 is the same as the original -- first-person action on a huge scale, and objective-based combat."
Quick quote: "Salem enforcers permanent death. If your character dies (or any other character for that matter), then that's the end of it."
Quick quote: "Scrolls is a collectible card game where players build and customize decks of "scrolls" (read as: cards). Players build their deck, then battle against other players online in tactical turn-based battles."
Quick quote: "With Smite, however, the camera is locked at eye-level, creating a third-person-action game feel. This tiny difference has massive ramifications on the DotA format."
Quick quote: "Protoss, Zerg and Terran factions will all be getting new units and upgrades, and some familiar units will no longer appear on the battlefield."
Quick quote: "Tera's combat system truly plays like an action game. If you don't want to get hit, then dodge."
Quick quote: "The volume of powers and the potential number of combinations (and useless combinations) is huge, and for someone brand new to the game, it can be tough deciding where to spend the glut of points you get early on."
Quick quote: "Runic's Torchlight II looks great so far. It's a far bigger project than the first game, featuring an sizeable overworld and plenty more to visit, explore and beat up."
Quick quote: "Expect quite a few new features, including more ship types, the ability to call in bombardments in coastal territories, rail lines…"
Quick quote: "[Tribes: Ascend] sends players hurtling across vast, hilly fields and breakneck speeds in the hopes of blowing each other to bits and grabbing the enemy flag."
Quick quote: "With a striking graphical style and cool-looking gameplay, Wakfu could be worth checking out"
Quick quote: "The Monk has a core skill called Jab that utilizes Chi, a resource that regenerates quickly like Rogue Energy or Hunter Focus."
Quick quote: "Warplanes may very well capture the audience that found Tanks too slow, given the faster and more reflex-based nature of dogfighting."
It's missing quite a few games like
a new take on Medieval combat, with a multi-player focus (it's got singleplayer as well)
AKA a Civ knock off but with wizards
An X-Com inspired game set in an alternate history cold war ers where aliens have invaded. Developed as a counter point to the FPS XCOM reboot it's probably going to be overshadowed by the Firaxis developed X-Com remake but they should hopefully be diferent enough to both find a place in X-Com fans hearts, Xenonauts will likely be the more hardcore of the two.
Offering simultaneous turn-based strategy gameplay much like last years Frozen Synapse it is another of a growing list of games that is bringing turnbassed stratergy games back in the limelight. It also features a cyber-punk distopia and we all know they are the "it" setting these days, forget those dusty wastelands and say hello to glowing neon.

This remake of the first game in Spiderweb software's clasic RPG series is due to release on Windows (it's already available on Mac) later this year. The indie studio that brought us amazing games such as Darwinia and DEFCON are back, but this time they’re looking to do something a bit different. Pricson Architect is, as you can probably guess, a game about building and maintaining a prison.
