Forums - Sony Discussion - What Could Have Sony Done Different To Make The PS3 As Successful As Its Predecessors...

Well thats easy it needed to not give away all its games. GTA was always out on the PS first, it lost out big losing that. Final Fantasy was all on the PS after VII, Resident Evil for the most part was always on PS2, Tomb Raider, Tekken and so on. It lost them all.

Now the only big franchises left are Gran Turismo, Uncharted and God of War that do really well.

Im a PS3 fanboy as awell but it is the truth, most of these franchises were known for being on the Playstation and it lost most of them. GTA and Final Fantasy being the biggest. Now its also lost MGS.

Exclusive was a big thing.

Back in the last gen, only good thing on Xbox was Halo.

All the great games especially launch titles like GTA3, GT3 and FFX which are all super hit well loved games btw. So, that goes to the 2nd point of better launch titles.

If the PS3 launched with a new Gta game or a new Gran Trismo game or a Final Fantasy game like FFX it would have helped a lot.

GTA4 was on both systems and was liked but many think SA is better. FF13 is a joke compared to 10 or even 12. GT 5 is great, wished it released earlier.

Also, PS2 was seen as a dvd player to many people and almost all consumers bought a DVD player in the last decade and a popular choice was the PS2.

Blue Rays have not been as accepted as DVD's and therefore only a certain % see the blue ray in a PS3 as a benefit.

So the PS3 lost the cheap or thrift crowd with adding the blue ray. The Ps2 was always a solid price while the PS3 at first was a rip off.

In 2006 you had alrady a 360 with some great games, and more coming, for 399$. Than Sony made a console on sale for 599$, because it had 102% of 360's power (thanks to cell) and blu-ray discs.
Basically you had to pay additional 200$ to have some features that were completely useless, unless you already owned an HDTV (also a good one, since in 2006 not all HDTVs were 1080p) and an Home Theater.

My advice to everyone is: don't be a fanboy for any console or corporation. They're not paying you. They don't care about you for a moment longer than it takes to charge your credit card.

EVERY system in EVERY generation has great exclusives that are worth playing. It's a shame to miss out on any of them. Sure, we can't all afford to buy all three systems at launch (I sure as heck didn't :), but eventually as prices drop and deals become available, snag the other systems and their best exclusives--you'll be glad you did. And with places like Gamefly.com selling used games that are in perfect shape for literally pennies on the dollar (I snagged Crysis 2 for $8.99 a few weeks ago, and about half a dozen other games under $10 apiece during the holidays), you can game on the cheap and enjoy all the best.

Unless a corporation is handing you a paycheck, don't shill for them. They don't deserve it :)

A 300 bucks price tag at launch and it would have sold better than the PS2.
