Forums - Sales - Wii, PS3, X360 Marketshare Percentages by Q Shipments - 1st Gen to have BIG 3 in 30% Range?

Will all 3 consoles finish in the 30% - 40% marketshare range?

Yes (things will go as expected) 35 70.00%

No (Wii will bounce back, HD fall hard) 7 14.00%

Maybe 7 14.00%

Don't Know 1 2.00%

Total:50

Hope you find the chart interesting. It's looking more likely we're going to see all 3 consoles end in the 30% - 40% marketshare range, a first ever I believe?

With Q4 due in, and 360 and PS3 being ahead by a fair bit, Wii's 44.13% is going to drop a lot, likely below 42.80%.

If we look at these LTD's by the end of 2012, this puts the Wii at 40.16%.

Wii - 102m (7m)
360 - 77.5m (12.5m)
PS3 - 74.5m (12.5m)

With it looking increasinly likely Nintendo have shipped around 10m this CY, and 360 and PS3 above 14m, these numbers seem plausible.

Very interesting. It really looks like they will all end up a lot closer than what this generation led us to believe throughout the years.

I expect PS360 to better in 2012 than your obviously conservative numbers, so yeah 30% for all 3 seems likely.

It sounds about right. I don't expect much in terms of Hardware sales this year. Since Wii U is coming out next year. And some sort of announcement for the other two systems should be made at E3.

IF Wii end up being 2nd or 3rd in market share, or even 1st but by a small margin, will we continue to call this gen the "Wii gen" ?

HD gen imo

130m vs 95m

closer? sony and ms wont catch Nintendo period the fight is between ps3 360 right now nintendo is releasing wii u

and in the end nintendo made the most money this gen , so market share would not really make a big deal

they all did their job no ones dropping out and yes it would be to answer your question but also it would also be the first time a company went on to sell 100 million consoles and handhelds in the same time period-wii /ds

and lol we dont add  the hd twins together so yes this is still a not a wii gen a nintendo gen

Yes. Just out of respect for the former Dear Leader that died such a horrible death at the hands of its creator itself!

The funny thing is that even the most extreme adjustments in the sales numbers we are currently discussing so much won't change this trend in the longer term.

You know everyone keeps saying Patcher's predictions are always wrong but he said back in 2006 before the Wii launched that he expects a 3 way statistical tie between the 3 consoles. It looks like It might pan out that way by the end of this generation.

Wii sales will die this year giving rise to a better market share for 360 and PS3 I wouldn't be surprised if they were 40% with wii being around 20%
