Amano is better than Nomura, but I give Nomura credit for spicing up the characters, but almost everything he has done since FF VII has been the same style.
Which is why I'm greatly impressed with his work on Versus XIII.

I don't have a problem with Versus XIII's character designs; they look pretty awesome to me.

Also I'm a old school gamer that enjoys Amano's work more than Nomura's. It was the older FF games that got me into the series when I started playing the series seriously around the early 2000s ;p. |
The thing about that though is XIII-2 and Type-0 are essentially done. Just localization now. That Final Fantasy music game isn't a major Final Fantasy game so it shouldn't have that large of a staff working on it.
Square-Enix has 10 internal development studios. Not including Eidos Interactive studios.

Well yeah he has the time now , I meant prior to those two games coming out. |
Oh ok. That makes sense. Nomura should have a lot of free time now.
Nomura didnt design the character costumes, they were designed by a fashion company called Roen.

thats why you dont see many zippers and belts, lol
that's why some of you feel they look like japanese fashion models.
i think it was a good decision, it will make them look different and it suits the setting of the game from what i'e seen. i'm still hyped for the game, the gameplay looks good.

it´s a matter of tastes i think
my HYPE for versus is almost ZERO , have the avatar and sign to reminde me :P with the ff 13-2 BS they stop production in this one, they are always stoping production to focus on other titles and i fear that the final product will not be great. better have expectations very LOW in this. |
You can say anything about pre-FF VII characters, but uninspired they're not. It takes more inspiration to come up with characters such as Dragoon Kain and their overall layout than characters such as Seifer or Squall, who could be pretty much palette swaps of one or another. I'm not talking about character development, just character design. Plus, Kefka is considered to be one of the best characters ever created in any video game, not just FF or RPGs, both in design and development, an honour that few other FF characters can share.
Plus, it's normal for almost everyone who started playing FF in the FFVII era to consider the post-Amano characters to be the better ones, just as it's normal for almost everyone who started in the pre-FVII era to consider the Amano ones to be the better ones. Just like the whole "pre and post Sakaguchi FF's" debacle, there's bound to be opinions on both sides.

That's interesting. Like I've said I like the whole style of Versus XIII. Noctis looks sharp.
How come I didn't know about the costumes !!
that's actually explain alot about Versus theme, they want something that goes well with the modern fashion
No one would call me " bad designed person" if I wear those :p
Just be patient with Versus XIII and be glad that they're localizing Type-0.
XIII-2 and Type-0 should easily tide people over until Versus is ready. That and the new Kingdom Hearts 3DS if you're into that franchise.
What do you all think are the chances of Final Fantasy X HD getting online Blitzball leagues?
