Forums - Sony - PS Vita Shipments could top 700k (Japan) FW

http://andriasang.com/comze0/vita_shipments/

A column at Mainichi Digital claims that PlayStation Vita's initial shipment may exceed 700,000 units.

The column's writer, Fumio Kurokawa, says that he's heard from various sources related to the matter that Sony originally planned an initial shipment of 500,000 units. However, due to pre-order demand, Sony added an additional 200,000 units.

Many retailers, including Tsutaya, Yodobashi Camera and Bic Camera, have said that you can purchase a system on launch day without a pre-order. A sudden 200,000 unit boost would explain the availability of stock.

Sounds about right to me.This will be the biggest holiday season in Japan ever.

Hmm...Is 700k low or high at this time of the year for system first week sales?

Take my love, take my land..

On the up side, anyone who want a VITA can have one

On the down side, they can't hype it up by saying it's all sold out

Now which is more important?

For Japan, that is a large number whatever time of the year

So long as this doesn't affect the units that they have for Europe and America this is fine, as those launches were delayed due to lack of Vita avaliability, similar to the delayed Europe PS3 launch

Signs are looking good for the Vita, we just have to hope that it can also do well in the west, which i think represents a much larger challenge

Both articles are right. If you read the OP again they said that Sony initially shipped 500k Vita but since the Pre-order demand is high ( sold-out?)  they added 200K more units so they can meet the demand. OF course I still treat this as a rumor until next week's Media creat numbers or official reports frrom reliable sources comes in.

I see, thanks for clearing that up

@bolded: Rumors? Well that explains the predictions over in the VITA prediction thread, I found it odd that most people were predicting 300k-400k when these articles say they sold out in preorders and shipped more
