It always appeared to me the British people did not like to integrate with EU, it was the politicians who pushed the idea on the British people.

I wouldnt say he is a coward but imo it was a very ill-advised move. He was facing pressure from his Eurosceptic Conservative Party members to not sign the deal, and on the other hand he was facing pressure from Europes leaders to support the deal. At this stage, we dont really know if this was a great move or not, but London which is the financial capital of Europe, may certainly suffer from Cameron's rejection. I would say the that fortunes of the Conservative Party for the next few years depend on the fallout of this.

Actually that's EXACTLY why camereon DIDN'T sign on.  The treaty included a tax on every financial transaction which would of KILLED investment banking in london.  It all would move to switzerland faster then it already is.

It's why you'll never see Europe do anything like the Vockler rule or really anything the US is considering financials wise.

The EU is nothing more than a self-serving, power-hungry corrupt group of men in brussels with small penises trying to rule europe. It is a completely unnecessary political organization that has brought no benefits to european countries that they couldn't have done themselves and probably with greater speed. It merely robs individual countries of their sovereignty and national identity in a pathetic attempt to be a USA of Europe. I'm hope it fails utterly and breaks apart. I'm proud to call myself both an Englishmen and a European but I detest the EU. Each country should have control over it's own economy.

So true - It's insane how many bilions of euro are wasted each year through all the stupid EU programs. Probably the only positive about EU is free movement of people and goods inside it's borders.

And Cameron needs to be aplauded - he took the interest of Britain first and foremost despite knowing what backlash and hate he would get for it in EU. I wish I could say the same about our prime minister.

I think he ended up with a bad outcome. Agreeing to that treaty would also have been a bad outcome. I don't know if he chose the lesser of two evils, but certainly his only choices were evils.

On topic, what he did was ballsy. I don't know if it was smart, but it certainly wasn't cowardly.

Correct.  People dont get just how big London is as a financial centre.  I repeat, the biggest in the world.  New York, second.

Anyway, it appears that Camerion set a trend, a good portion of the rest of the european nations are also now pulling back a little and expressing doubt.

I've heard recently it's 10% of the English economy.  It's right crazy to think he'd hurt a 10th of his countries economy with a smile.

Well to be fair to the UK, many people are calling the European agreement a flop.

So the UK could stay out and simply remain a trading partner with the UK.

Correct.

It is hard to understand why people in Erope dont get this.  To be fair the German are softe ning to the outcome of last week, whereas the French.... well.... no comment - same old, same old.

Because it's politically correct to speak about thinking about well being and future of whole EU and not only your own country even if everything done under the wraps is done to forward one of countries agenda ;)

Best showing of EU "solidarity" was the gas line linking Germany with Russia directly which now allows Russia to threaten whole Eastern Europe without any repercussions from Germans and rest of west.

All what Cameron did was saying no and run back to London =  that is why they call him an coward...

Thatcher would have stayed in Brussels until their would have been an agreement that she could agree with and would not leave even for weeks before that happened...now that are balls of steel...

Like verhofstad said 'Leaving the negotiations table never benefitted someone'..

Personally I go with Rath their was not clear an good decision to made for the people but as an politician he did the right thing because now he won a lot of votes the question is will this be seen as a good decision in the (near) future...

Edit: if anything all this bullshit going in the Eu and the western world made me so tired and so ashamed to be an european.  Gonna spend some time next weekend thinking if I go in the job offers i got from Hong Kong and Nagoya.

I heard the Germans/French do not want the UK in the Euro anymore as they want to take away all the financial power in London.

Imo, that is the only reason why the Germans and French are a bit giddy the UK is acting like this.
