Thatcher would have stayed in Brussels until their would have been an agreement that she could agree with and would not leave even for weeks before that happened...now that are balls of steel...

Personally I go with Rath their was not clear an good decision to made for the people but as an politician he did the right thing because now he won a lot of votes the question is will this be seen as a good decision in the (near) future...
Edit: if anything all this bullshit going in the Eu and the western world made me so tired and so ashamed to be an european. Gonna spend some time next weekend thinking if I go in the job offers i got from Hong Kong and Nagoya.
