Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto is finally "retiring"

***faints and then cries to sleep***

This quote peeked my interest:

What I really want to do is be in the forefront of game development once again myself,” Miyamoto said. “Probably working on a smaller project with even younger developers. Or I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small.”

It seems like he wants to go back to a more hands-on approach where he himself actually comes up with and designs the core gameplay idea, I think. Pikmin was the last time he did something close to this I believe.

Miyamoto created half my childhood :( It's really sad that he's leaving :'(

But he is not leaving :P

I'm just

I'm just seeing so many people who aren't really reading what this article is saying.

If he's stepping down as General Manager I'm curious about how that will affect the culture of the company going forward, but this isn't going to do much to Zelda and Mario and the like. I'm sure he'll still be consulted on those projects - and even if he isn't, he's spent years training people to make the big games in his absence.

I'm fine with him making smaller, more personal projects. It's been a long time since I really played a Miyamoto game. What was the last game he was the exclusive, acting director on?

Miyamoto hasn't directed a Zelda game since Ocarina of Time.

Don’t worry they are in good hands ;)

He always said he wanted to put these games in good hands before leaving or something

The Mario Galaxy guy is very creative so don’t worry about it and Aonuma and the Minish Cap guy are very good too.

The problem is what if the next Zelda has too much text? Who would tell them O-0

I’m sure he will play them and look at what they are doing during development and give his opinion

I know that, but it seems he won't influence the direction of those games anymore like he has in the past years. I just feel like it's the first step towards his real retirement, and it seems like some of the main franchises will lose his influence.

Its about time. Maybe get someone younger who really understands the Western Market.
New IPs are a must as well for the Wii U and 3DS.
