Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Will Microsoft ever lose NA after this Gen?

So many people are attached to xbox live now. They made an investment in it and bought content such as arcade games, full games, movies, etc. Some people even are also very attached to their achievements and friends. Microsoft has built a climate similar to apple in which people can't leave because they invested so much money on the content in their respective service (apple being music and apps). So do you guys think Microsoft will ever lose thier hold in NA after this gen? Unless Xbox live has a colossal collapse of course...

Oh they could very easily, if they fuck up. Sony had too big an ego with the PS3, after the PS2 and we've recently seen the same with Nintendo and the 3DS from DS, thinking that just because they won previously, they can do it again no matter what moves they make. Doing very well the previous generation (in the case NA) can be worth something if you make the right moves. If you don't, it might as well mean nothing.

So bad moves they could make would be not enough unique IP, the real core gamer won't be happy if they think we're in for another gen of just Fable, Halo and Gears, heck even I won't be happy with that .., another bad move will be a high price, anything above $399 is risky. Not upgrading XBL enough Vs. PSN, and launching later than the PS4, or WiiU by more than 1 year.

I don't think M$ will ever have to worry about NA.. Maybe even next gen... Just like how Sony never has to worry about Japan.. Only problem is from a completely business (financial) point of view M$ would rather have NA then Japan.. In fact Sony would too... They can never be "PS2 dominate" without NA.. All u have to do is see what percent of all PS2 sales were NA... It's enough to matter

They never had it to begin with :/ They lost it this generation to Nintendo.
I think the Xbox brand will only continue growing. Unless they pull a $599.99 like Sony did.

They've had it the last year+, winning 16 of the last 17 NPD's, they havn't won the entire gen (OP didn't say that) but they clearly have the NA market now and are dominant there.

It looks like X360 will sell the most after the end of this generation..(In NA ofcourse)..

Ofc they can lose next gen.

Americans don't show blind alligence to any company in terms of video games. Nintendo, Sony, Sega and now Microsoft have all lead the market at one time or another(key word time not generation). Its hard to compare microsoft's xbox live with apple's itunes. While the vast majority of people will at least occasionally listen to their music years after they buy it, few people actually go back and play their old games so potentially losing some xbox live titles isn't really a motivating factor.(yes i know many of you play your old games, but the average gamer doesn't often go to a video game sales website)

Next gen's victor will completely depend on who makes the most compelling hardware at a reasonable price with the right exclusive games.

Well, they lost last gen, and they lost this gen. So I'm gonna predict they will lose next gen too.

How do you lose something you don't have?

The 360 is having a great run the last year with the Wii losing its edge and the PS3 just staying put. Kinect has really done its job in the US, for how long, who knows.
