Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Skyward Sword will be the best rated game of 2011

It has a pretty I'd say. The only challengers seem to be Batman & Portal, both of which are at 95. I say Zelda has a prett good chance at trouncing them.

It should hit 95, I think, though how much higher than that it can go is up in the air. The full Edge review is up and it does sound incredible, the design of Zelda is finally moving out from under Ocarina's shadow, it seems. There is every chance with it being fully-motion controlled and stepping away from traditional Zelda design that some critics will complain, but we could be onto another Galaxy style game here where Nintendo's creativity has really burst out of the box to reignite one of its oldest properties.

95 is a fairly safe bet, so it would match Arkham City and Portal. I'm hoping it can go beyond that to 97 to match the Galaxy games, really. I think the only other title coming out from now on that could get to 95 or higher is Skyrim.

It will have a good chance.

Firstly, it's Zelda.
Secondly, the Wii userbase has been starved of quality titles. This will feel like the best thing ever to a dedicated non-Xenoblade Wii gamer.

It all depends on whether most of the metadarlings finally accept that motion control can be better than classic controls even for traditional games.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

No, I think UC3 and Skyrim will beat it.

That didn't stop Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks from being the lowest rated Zelda games on Gamerankings and Metacritic since Minish Cap. Handheld games, yes, as opposed to their console brothers; but handheld Zelda titles, while not as highly rated as the console counterparts have also been consistent with keeping sky high metarankings, until now.

I acknowledge that the Zelda branding will carry the game a ton, but I don't believe it's strong enough this time round to give it a good chance of being the highest rated game of 2011. The games total reliance on motion controls alone will prevent this, and on top of that it must compete with the current holders Portal 2 and Batman: Arkham City at 95%+ - the latter of which is still getting reviews - and a few other recent or upcoming juggernauts such as Battlefield 3 for the PC, and Skyrim. Uncharted 3 has been kicked out of the competition thanks to Eurogamer and their controversial 8/10. I suppose some other games have the potential to enter the running as well, maybe Assassins Creed: Revelations, or Star Wars: The Old Republic? I have my doubts about Modern Warfare 3, personally.

I fully expect Skyward Sword to fall in the 92 - 94% range. At worst, it'll land in the 91% group and join the likes of Gears 3 and Forza 4, and at best it will approach or match Portal 2. Either way, the jig is up for Zelda; quality Wii game or not, the odds are stacked against it. It doesn't stand a chance I'm afraid.

EDIT: And half an hour later I check back to Gamerankings and just like that, Battlefield 3 for the PC is almost certainly out of the running now, thanks to Gamespot and their 8.5. Man, these things are twitchy...

How technical is your game?
