Forums - Sales Discussion - Can anyone tell me whats so great about the Wii?

Isn't the Eyetoy somewhat similar to the wiimote?

Around the Network

Does anyone remember the days before Windows/Mac computing? Computers were operated almost exclusively by typing in keyboard commands.

When they Mac finally launched, computer nerds called it underpowered and overpriced. The nerds scoffed at people who wanted to use the mac calling it gimmick and for those who weren't smart enough to use a real computer.

Sound familiar???

The Eyetoy was the beginning of the gaming renaissance.

We have to give credit to Sony, they began changing videogames with their Eyetoy.

No, not really. Wiimotes detect motion up and down, left and right, and tilting back and forth. It has a camera inside it and a sensor bar on the TV, so you could point and aim at the TV like a gun, or rather like a computer mouse. It has a nunchuck which also has all the motion controls, so you essentially double the motion capabilities...it's really not like the Eyetoy.

I hate to say it, but the Eyetoy would be cumbersome and annoying to use in every game...it typically requires you to stand up, stay within the camera's range, and it deals with recognizing bodies typically, it can't detect tilt and motion past a movement of your arm, and there's no IR involved either.

EDIT:  And there's no need to keep spamming about the Eyetoy...keep it in the same post if you've got nothing to add.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Give credit to Sony? Not in this millenium

Also, the eyetoy breaks down quickly when you have multiple people/actions. It can be overloaded quite quickly and is sensitive to changing light conditions/environment.

The Wiimote on the other hand is well designed for multiple people, which allows greater social interaction.

Yeah but the eye toy didn't come bundled with the PS2 at release, nor is it the standard controller.

Its not what people say that is offensive, it is how we react to it that determines offense or not- REBT theory of Albert Ellis.

Reasons why the Wii is selling so well:

1.The Wii appeals to casual gamers most of all, so obviously it's going to sell plentiful.
2.The price
3.It's different

The most important reason is because Nintendo released so many of their best games in the Wii's first year. Nintendo have always been known to spread out their best titles much longer time periods apart. It's kind of obvious they want the lead ASAP to increase sales and attract more people away from the other consoles.

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

Hey, atleast Sony tried!!! Obviously it did not work out as they planned but they tried changing the way games were played. How do you know you will fail if you don't try.

The Eyetoy is the shit!! and their still new games coming out for it.
