Not very confident in our prediction, or did you not understand what I was offering. I have a counter proposal that you cannot possibly refuse. I win and nothing happens to you, because lets be honest I will be a fucking prophet on these forums. What more could I need. You win and my account is deleted, and I will even throw in a permaban. So I am basically offering up the kingdom.

I am going to be forthright with you. I was hoping to suck someone else in with this fools bet. I am not at liberty to say certain things. Suffice it to say something is going to happen in little over a month that is going to have a massive impact on console sales. So yes this difference is going to happen. I just didn't give the complete reason.

It just wouldn't be fair, and I got to be honest about that up front.

I understood what you were offering, I just thought you were giving me full control when you asked for the terms. Uh, I accept your new proposal, I guess. Although, I don't see any incentive for you, but sure, I accept the bet.

You must know a very important secret, or you place little significance on your profile. Either way, this should be quite interesting.

He never responded to my acceptance of his bet. Shame...

Xbox 360 has sold more hardware than PS3 every year since PS3 launched. Give me a break, and this year will be no different.

I like vgchartz community, but the numbers aren't accurate.

Microsoft is the only one that comes out with their numbers sold.

Sony uses shipped.

.................and I can't remember the last time Nintendo came out with how many Wii's they have sold.

If anyone have links prove me otherwise.

I am rolling on the floor, great post dude.

thanks man

Microsoft doesnt have infinite money.... They have a HUGE cash reserve though...

Obviously I was exaggerating, but Microsoft has so much cash you might as well call it infinite.

..............and they keep making more this isn't 2007, you do know that Microsoft has been making profit in every division they have since 2008.

So they keep adding to the money they already have, and you do know that media tells  you what they know. Microsoft and many other Companies and famous rich and wealthy people never reveal how much they actually make.

Famous people and big companies are making much more than you think. Microsoft, Apple, Sony, etc  have way more money than the media tells you.

Seriously I'm getting tired of the price drop excuse. The 360 is still cheaper to get than the PS3. And most stores are giving $100 discount as we speak. No console has better deals, cheaper deals than the 360 right now.

Exactly.  I would love to see the numbers the 360 would be pulling if there weren't such great holiday deals.  And I'm not saying MS is wrong for having them, cause they're not, but for MS fans to act like the 360 is outselling the PS3 these past few weeks with "no price cut" or "very little effort" is just rediculous and quite naive.

so has that guy that asserted 100% (insider knowledge) that the xbox360 will sell 1 million more this year than ps3 said what his insider knowledge was yet?

Lol, I remember that post now.  Who was that from, anyway?

I don't know. If the PS3/360 ends up winning the year by 100k or less, then it would fall under "statistical tie" territory. A victory by such a miniscule number would be nothing to brag about (imo). If anything, I still see the 360 ahead of PS3 worldwide (overall) by the time the next Microsoft/Sony systems come around in 2013/2014.

It shouldn't be just by 100K.  The 360 will probably outsell the PS3 by ~250K-300K next week, but the PS3 will probably outsell the 360 by ~80K or so the final week.  I would guess the gap is going to end up ~350K-400K in the PS3's favor.  Then, there's always adjustments that will be made around the end of Jan-beginning of Feb.

Now I don't know exactly how relevant this information is, but in Australia, for the last month - MS have been offering a $50 cashback rebate on all 360 models sold. It's not through the retailer - but directly through MS, similar to offers on PC accessories/products they've offered here before. Anecdotally, from retail friends, sales have been through the roof. There's been $298AUD(348 before cashback) 250b/Kinect deals, and for a territory where the 360 launched at $650 (the ps3 at $999! To be fair I paid 695 for my PS1 in 1995) - that's insane. Kinect has a lot of casual buzz (we have a bit of space down here) and

I'd say there's definitely some gift card contribution of some part coming from MS is those deals you've got going over there. Smart move.

It's not a "price cut" - it's better, it's a "value add". Business 101 will tell you, almost regardless of market (cars, hamburgers, TV's, cables, amazing squeegies - you name it) if a price is higher, a majority of the market will perceive this product (somewhat foolishly) to be of a higher "grade" regardless of individual differences. It's the basis of Sony's(and many others) TV marketing worldwide. Slap a "TruColour" or some buzzword on a set, charge $100 more than your competitor, and while you wont attract the entire market, many consumers will see a "prestige" in paying more for your products. The brand has to have some legitimate aura (that companies like Sony, Apple, MS and Nintendo among others) have spent many years building.

So MS has the "Kinect" aura/buzz with their products now - but if they're perceived as "too cheap" , they lose some of that prestige gloss. So they keep the price the same and "add value" through a cashback or giftcard rebate. A lower RRP is a lower RRP, and people just take that as a given once it's set. A limited "cashback" offer or "giftcard deal" not only increases the perceived value in the eyes of the consumer - it urges them to BUY NOW, as THE OFFER IS STRICTLY LIMITED - regardless of whether there's a price cut coming anyway.

Clever Clever Clever Marketing.

All told - it'd be quite the miracle if MS pulled this caper off and grinched PS3''s christmas away, but I thought it best be mentioned about the Australian $50 cashback across all 360 models, as I've seen nothing mentioned on the site (though I didn't look TOO hard) and may factor into Outside USA territories (where is Australia now? I think we were EMEAA but are now ROW) sales estimations/trackings. You may just find that outside USA 360 sales have been undertracked if this (rebates/offers) is the case in other territories - even if Australian numbers are just a drop in the ocean in the bigger scheme of things.

I would expect MS Australia to announce some numbers at some stage regardless, as this is looking (again, from anecdotal evidence, but I know a LOT of retail managers) like MS is having their best Christmas yet down here. And it wouldn't surprise me if Australia is not some rare one-off case.
