That really sucks. Would be a major headache for me if I had neighbours like that. Truth is, there's not much you can do.

Have you ever seen the Human Centipede? Since it's just one guy, you could try making the Human Inner Tube.

I had a similar problem, but I couldn't resort to many of the options you have at your disposal.

A person moved into the apartment directly above me. He liked to have sex from about 1AM to like 5AM. Don't ask me how he had so much stamina unless he was just watching porn all night really really loud. I couldn't sleep I thought about phoning the police but decided to ask a friend on the force first, he told me the police would probably laugh at me and I'd get nowhere. I thought of knocking on his door when I started hearing the girl screaming and him moaning, I actually went to his door to do so but the noise was so loud I could hear it outside his door and chickened out because it would be very awkward. Finally I wrote an anonymous note asking him to keep his sexual activities alittle quieter in the future. The next time I heard the moaning and screaming I went up taped the note to his door and rang his bell. I did so multiple times and eventually he got quieter though I must admit I continued to hear it until he moved out. But it was nice that he dumbed it down a bit making it a little quieter.

You however have plenty of Un-awckward options that have all been listed. I would approach your landlord first (Or Apartment manager) if they do not resolve the issue after a week proceed to phone the police, I'm not sure about where you live but in Canada at least Police are required to respond to every legit complaint (Report). If after the police respond the man above you continues to blare his music talk to other tenants in your apartment about the issue. Get one of them to call the police the next time, let the police handle the issue. The police do not like coming back to the same address multiple times and are likely to do something. If he ignores the police around three times and you had different tenants call the police. Your last resort should be to look into your legal options, consult your apartments management then issue a threat of legal action to the tenant responsible for the disturbance. If the music continues take legal action against the tenant.

The idea of assault or destruction of property or retaliatory action via blaring your own music , verbally assaulting the tenant etc...etc.. should never even be seen as optional. You may really want to take the law into your own hands but its in your best interest to let the authorities and legal system deal with the issue. Only problem with doing things by the book , you may not be able to stop his music from blaring for days, weeks possibly months since to follow through with the various actions takes time!

God Speed and hope you shut the jerk up and get some well deserved sleep!

AFAIK the police won't do something if its not 10 pm or later, but you could look up the house rules if it states that the idle period begins earlier, then you could go to the landlord and complain about him and the landlord is legally bound to take actions. But you cannot do much when he is hearing music really loud outside of the idle period. So well... you could ask him to be a little quieter in the evening.

make him come downstairs

i feel yor pain,

i live in a horible box flat where i could punch my way through the ceiling, what on earth possesses builders to make places unlivable with neighbours yes i know its the money but it should be against the law,i never understand why some people are so inconsiderate about those around them like they think no one lives in the places above or below them

i can't wait to move when i have some more money, sometimes i have to show them what noise is when they are watching their soaps or x factor or whtever it is and they realise how thin the walls are but i hate warring with neighbours some people are real nasty pricks, when you get a bad family in,it can be a nightmare and no one does anything about it

Freestyle rap battle. Winner takes all.

Kidnap him, tie him up to a chair and force him to play Dark Souls with the crappiest weapon and no armor on...oh and mute Dark Souls and put on a looping track of the Barney theme song on a very loud setting

Also make sure it's pitch black and only feed him shitty dollar store pretzels and off brand Diet Coke.

Then after 5 days of that tell him if he ever has his music loud again you will do something even worse next time.

Cook disgusting smelling food and find a way to put a bird house near one of his windows (preferbly bedroom).

I'd try the landlord. They're more likely to care about a tenet at least (as opposed to the police, unless he were disturbing the neighborhood at large)
